On page 2, universal commands ... isn't that the wrong finger?

Things You Should Know About Your Uconnect®
Phone
Voice Command
• For best performance, adjust the rearview mirror to
provide at least ½ in (1 cm) gap between the overhead
console (if equipped) and the mirror.
• Always wait for the beep before speaking.
• Speak normally, without pausing, just as you would
speak to a person sitting a few feet/meters away from
you.
• Make sure that no one other than you is speaking
during a voice command period.
• Performance is maximized under:
• low-to-medium blower setting,
• low-to-medium vehicle speed,
• low road noise,
• smooth road surface,
• fully closed windows,
• dry weather condition.
• Even though the system is designed for users speaking
in North American English, French, and Spanish accents,
the system may not always work for some.
• When navigating through an automated system such
as voice mail, or when sending a page, before speaking
the digit string, make sure to say “Send”.
• It is recommended that you do not store names in your
favorites phonebook while the vehicle is in motion.
• Phonebook (Mobile and Favorites) name recognition
rate is optimized when the entries are not similar.
• You can say “O” (letter “O”) for “0” (zero).
• Even though international dialing for most number
combinations is supported, some shortcut dialing
number combinations may not be supported.
• In a convertible vehicle, system performance may be
compromised with the convertible top down.
Far End Audio Performance
• Audio quality is maximized under:
• low-to-medium blower setting,
• low-to-medium vehicle speed,
• low road noise,
• smooth road surface,
• fully closed windows,
• dry weather conditions, and
• operation from the driver’s seat.
• Performance, such as audio clarity, echo, and loudness
to a large degree rely on the phone and network, and
not the Uconnect® Phone.
• Echo at the far end can sometimes be reduced by
lowering the in-vehicle audio volume.
• In a convertible vehicle, system performance may be
compromised with the convertible top down.
Voice Texting
Uconnect® Phone can read or send new messages on
your phone.
Your phone must support Voice Texting over Bluetooth®
in order to use this feature. If the Uconnect® Phone
determines your phone is not compatible with Voice
Texting messaging over Bluetooth® the “Messaging”
button will be greyed out and the feature will not be
available for use.
NOTE: Uconnect® Phone Voice Texting is only available
when the vehicle is not in moving.

Page 83 of this supplement (US Version) also tells you what commands it will recognise.
Jesus Iboughtajeep, that looks like an Insurance policy. Pages and pages of "get out" clauses. The above makes me think that Chrysler USA knew all along it would not work but added the features for appearance. However, I will study the above, try a few things and report back. Thanks for that. By the way, are you going to test out some of the functions or are you just going to just black them out with a good black texta.

I'm not even allowed to drive the car, so what do I care?

Webber,

The list goes on but all have one purpose which is to keep exterior and interior background noise to a minimum. EG, my garmin GPS does not response to any voice command, even I shout at it, if windows open. Good luck with trial.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

The dealer has advised me that my spec's have been confirmed for the production in Sept & Oct/Nov delivery. My question is when would the dealer have the number to track the build progress etc ????

Hi All,
Saw our first "other my14" yesterday. A DCR limited in Kuranda on the FNQ hinterland.

Too me this problem appears to be mounting to be becoming quite a major problem to rectify. Maybe all the wingers are gravitating to this forum but if this forum is indicative of whats happening in the mainstream then Chrysler are going to have to fix thousands upon thousands of cars. I cannot understand how they would not be concerned.
I am not dismissing them all as minor issues, I am seeing overly emotional language used to describe the issues, and I am saying that no good can come from putting an emotional feeling/connectoin to many issues that are out of your control. If anyone’s ability to become upset and pissed off and then display this emotion in a verbal manner to either your dealer of Jeep Aus will actually alter the speed of the issue being fixed, then by all means engage in that. Issues such as ill fitting physical parts can be covered by this, raise the issue, it can be fixed quickly or part ordered to replace. All known quantities.
However, no matter how mad anyone gets at the problems, it does not make problem solving and fixing the Uconnect related problems occur at a different rate.

You have to be very careful with releasing patches, it can frequently be one step forward three back if the aren’t vetted thoroughly.
There are millions of lines of code, thousands of iterations in their possible use. It can be very easy for many people to say, “How hard can it be to fix this one small issue”, but these are also the same people that are not coding, have never done so. Have never had to deal with the results of releasing a patch that causes more issues than it fixes.
I have never coded, but I have lived with the results as a consumer and a supplier of patches released that at best fix an issue, and at worse fix nothing and cause more problems.
In an ideal world the car would not have been released without these problems, but as has been pointed out as some point before, the most thorough workout your work can get is in real life.
There is nothing like several thousand people testing something over many months to a relative handful testing it over many years.

Do you think for one second this type of thing does not happen to EVERY brand, sure it does. I have heard form owners of Mercedes, Audi, Jag, Toyota (inc Lexus), Holden, Ford, Range Rover etc….. about faults that drive them nuts. More and more of these issues are related to the ever increasing complex systems we as consumers are demanding be available.
Lodge your complaint, try to work around it if it is at all possible. If not, sure swear at the car, I do this every day in my car with an A/C setting fault that annoys me, but I do it and move on.
I follow the Govt Recall feed and you see some real major issues on a very frequent basis.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Would it be reasonable to assume that the same UC is used in all Chrylser (AUS) vehicles?

If so, then the guys that own the 300 series cars are having the same issue with VR Navigation as the JGC owners. Here is their thread discussing this issue. According to a post made about a week and a half ago, (post #138), Chrylser are close to a fix for this issue.

Here's the link to that thread. (It's a bit slow to load)

Oh, Webber - same voice error message when we try to navigate using VR as well.

Am having no issue with VR control of songs/artists/genre etc though. Still playing with it though - will post about it later in the day.

Re VR, the Americans are also having some issues, so it's not just an accent thing.

I think the point Webber is making, is not whether the item working or not affects you personally, but rather if the vehicle is advertised that these items form part of the contract then they should work & be faultless, which in the case of the MY14 JGC does not fore fill Chrysler's obligation.
But from all reports on this forum most are enjoying their rides even with these small issues, which does say a lot for the car.
