Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Great review IWAJ. Agree with it's a bit like holding a racehorse back. Isn't it a fab vehicle.

I have removed all the music off the SD card and only put Amy Winehouse on there.

I have played extensively today with the SD card. I am able to change songs, artists and genre's through VR. However, the fields must be populated when ripped and synched on the SD card.

I pulled a random old compilation CD and Windows MP had no clue as to what it was but I ripped and synched it away. As expected UC had no clue what it was either so whilst it played fine (when manually selected through the touchscreen) of course I could not control it using VR.

Oh, just adding to this - UC reported that particular song/artist as 'Unknown artist', so I tried to get it to play by saying 'play unknown artist'. It told me to bugger off. I suppose that was expected.

Webber, I wonder if 'The King' is the only song that has the song title/artist fields populated and that is why it is finding that particular one? Just a guess...

For the CD player, even though the quick reference guide states that I can select tracks by saying 'Play Track whatever', that is incorrect. It will only respond when I say 'Play Number whatever'. No biggie though.

For some odd reason today also, the Auto HL and the CC worked flawlessly. Just lucky I guess.

The more I hear about Jeep Australia the more I'm disappointed. Good customer service is hard to come by these days but I expect when I make such a big $$ purchase that what I request is what I get (obviously within their option range).

Oh well enough of the rant. Very Happy that it all worked out for you, best possible news in the end So have you been told when it's available for pick up?

Have been told that it is waiting on pickup at the port for delivery to dealer, hopefully I will have it by the weekend.

Issues such as ill fitting physical parts can be covered by this, raise the issue, it can be fixed quickly or part ordered to replace. All known quantities.
However, no matter how mad anyone gets at the problems, it does not make problem solving and fixing the Uconnect related problems occur at a different rate.

You have to be very careful with releasing patches, it can frequently be one step forward three back if the aren’t vetted thoroughly.
There are millions of lines of code, thousands of iterations in their possible use. It can be very easy for many people to say, “How hard can it be to fix this one small issue”, but these are also the same people that are not coding, have never done so. Have never had to deal with the results of releasing a patch that causes more issues than it fixes.
I have never coded, but I have lived with the results as a consumer and a supplier of patches released that at best fix an issue, and at worse fix nothing and cause more problems.
In an ideal world the car would not have been released without these problems, but as has been pointed out as some point before, the most thorough workout your work can get is in real life.
There is nothing like several thousand people testing something over many months to a relative handful testing it over many years.

Do you think for one second this type of thing does not happen to EVERY brand, sure it does. I have heard form owners of Mercedes, Audi, Jag, Toyota (inc Lexus), Holden, Ford, Range Rover etc….. about faults that drive them nuts. More and more of these issues are related to the ever increasing complex systems we as consumers are demanding be available.
Lodge your complaint, try to work around it if it is at all possible. If not, sure swear at the car, I do this every day in my car with an A/C setting fault that annoys me, but I do it and move on.
I follow the Govt Recall feed and you see some real major issues on a very frequent basis.
thanks Snuke, what I am interpreting from your response is that you are still confident all the reported faults (primarily with the Uconnect) are fixable for members...it is just going to take time.

If the Limited had it, we probably wouldn't get it though as the amount of crap that gets dragged into the car with our dirt and gravel driveway and muddy horse areas we would have to run splash mats or black mats at the least.
then the area around the centre drive line would turn to dirt too.

I dream of the day we stop dragging dirt and crap about everywhere.
I can appreciate that. Our road was gravel/mud until it was sealed about 10 years ago. Prior to that it virtually was not worth even trying to wash the car. You can just see a tad of bitumen to the right of the drivers side rearview mirror. Sealed roads are luxurious when trying to keep a clean car.

Some pics. In the last photo, can someone tell me about the rubber seal for the windows whether they should be rolled in on flush? If you look closely you can see the change about half way down the window.

Congrats on your new Overland. Looks familiar to me. I will check out my windows in daylight tomorrow and get back to you. I must say I have not noticed anything to this point in time.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

SJandL, I have looked up the site of "Gracenote" and it makes no sense to me. I cannot see how it is relevant for us. It is not a download service so I cannot see how it can relate to the songs we download. All to much for me. I have no idea of the terms "populated" and "ripped" CD's. Don't you simply download from Itunes through a Mp3 thingie (my son showed me how) onto your computer and then you connect up your iphone to the computer and Sync it or something and wammo, they are on your iphone. Have no idea how it works. I just follow the simple steps my son has written down for me. I actually thought I had been quite smart to have progressed to the point I had. Iphone works through the Uconnect correctly so I have lots of songs. It just does not work through the VR button as I have already outlined. A stunning car. Imagine the perfection of this car if the Uconnect did in fact work the way it is meant too.

I believe if your iPhone is connected by cable you can use VR, but if only connected by Bluetooth there is not enough info for VR to work.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Yes, agree - Gracenote not relevant. I don't download from itunes, no. Ripping basically means taking the tracks from a CD and putting them on to the computer and then synch the computer with the SD card. Each song has a number of tags within it. Song Title, Artist, Composer, Year, Genre.

When you rip (copy) songs from a CD using for example, Windows Media Player, it places that information on the SD card also when you synchronise the computer with the SD card. I'm sure itunes will work in a similar manner.

I don't have an iPhone so can't test that connectivity. Steele Blade's suggestion may work. Steele Blade's suggestion seemed to be the case with our son's iPad. Whilst it connected successfully via Bluetooth, to control it using VR required a USB connection. (according to my husband and son who played with it a while ago).

Gracenotes provides the album covers for your screen. For example, when playing a music album, gracenotes will display that album cover on the screen. You need to download updates if you usually listen to recent albums.

Nice iwantanotherjeep, the rockrails look great. What was the end result for the recovery hooks not fitting?
