Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hang in there. You know doubt saw my question to Milous on the other thread for his opinion if CRD's start mid May how long before they go to the Docks bound for Australia.
I know about waiting, and all we have to drive at the moment is a little Holden Astra which we purchased off our daughter at car yard selling prices to help her out because the car yards were only offerring her half of what we bought it for. We don't go anywhere in it because we don't feel safe. It is meant to be a back up second car which we have been using now for 12 months waiting for my Jeep.

A few have been built so far. I expect that CRD export production will start sooner than for the U.S., should have a better answer in the next couple weeks.

Thanks Milous, good to see a little action on this site and the main site again because both threads have been dead these last two days.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

So 2 other things my dealer told me 2 weeks ago. He showed me on his screen a local order from 30 November that had just been given a build no. I ordered Dec 1 so here is hoping. Secondly while he was as in the dark as we all are, he indicated typical timing of 1 -2 weeks ex factory to get on a boat, 6 weeks to Oz, 1 -2 weeks to get through customs and out to dealers, 1 week in dealer before delivery. cherry Limited 3.0 with off road, luxury packs and quadra lift, with towpack, cargo barrier, roo bar to be fitted later here. Anyone with experience on dealer option fitting?

I got my cargo barrier and towbar aftermarket. Both are Hayman Reese. Saved over $1000 on dealer quote. Also saved on Luxury Car Tax by not having them in the purchase price, and parts and accessories for HR products are widely available and much cheaper. Someone had trouble getting a replacement hitch for the Mopar towbar because apparently they only sell it with the entire towbar assembly.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

thanks Studgun . This is all new to me retiring after 30 years of company cars. i just asked the dealer by email if there is anything to do to make sure I don't wait a month for the towbar after the new Jeep eventually turns up. Can I assume fitting a HR towbar can give me the 3.5 t towing capacity and still hold new car warranty? I did it after build for exactly the same reason.I tow a 2 6 boat quite a lot but plan to get more serious.Great forum for picking all this up.

Yep, same towing capacity and does not void warranty. You do lose the rear recovery hook, however particularly with a monocoque vehicle you don't want to recover from a single off-centre point anyway as you can end up twisting the body. Recovery using a recovery hitch in the towbar will give you a more even distribution of the forces. Not sure on what you plan to use yours for so 4WD recovery mightn't even be a consideration for you.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Thanks .
Mostly towing boats or vans though i may get stuck in sand when I don't have a boat on. If so taking the towbar off to access a central recovery tow hitch point would be fine. No serious off roading planned - more just in case plus the luxury towing capacity.

You didn't happen to see a black SRT with HK audio and the dual-pane sunroof in amongst the Laredos, Limited and Overlands did you? ;o)

Do you have any idea when SRT production for Australia will get started?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Just joined the forum as about to purchase our first Jeep GC Limited CRD after test driving one last week. Current dilemma is deciding if we pick up a 2013 now as there are some good prices on offer or wait for the 2014 with its upgrades but assuming it will be at or close to full sticker price.

We were driving down Mt Tambourine towards Beaudesert this afternoon and spied a 2014 Grand Cherokee going up the mountain. Unmistakable because of the new grille and changes to the Jeep logo on the tailgate as it went past. Didn't have much time to see what variant it was.

Have to assume its a demo out for a ride with some motoring journos on board. Can we assume this is the first steps to announcing its arrival date in Aus with some supporting reviews??

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Gusrox, I hardly believe what you saw was a 2014 Grand Cherokee. More likely it was a different model Jeep.
