What was the "wrongness" with the towbar wiring harnesses Bigskiddy?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

The release of the Summit is such a kick in the balls for those who wanted one. The bullsh!t that Jeep Australia and their dealers spew forth is unreal. It probably wouldn't have been on my list, and the time was right for us to buy the car, so personally I'm not p!ssed... but my empathies to those who wanted the Summit from the start.

I was quizzing my girlfriend today, and without me giving it away, she recalled the dealer saying the Mopar tow system "knew you had a trailer connected and turned off the rear sensors". Glad I didn't swallow that load of jizz.

Maybe we should start a new thread "Bullsh!t the Yard Gimp Told Me". It'd probably be as long as this thread!

Over and out,
Steve

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Yeah we felt a little bit 'Arghh...' about it this morning Barboots but talking through it further, we're ok with it.

I have a plan though. (I always have a plan).

We weren't going to keep WK (but we have decided to now) and so my plan is to go a couple more years with her (150,000 currently on her clock) and she has become the 'paddock basher' (unfair term really) and then when she retires, WK2 Overland becomes the 'paddock basher' and I get my new Summit. (and there had better be the 'Winter Chill' exterior as an option otherwise I will cry) - because it wasn't an option with the MY14. I'm hoping they will bring back the colour.

Good plan me thinks.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

In regard to the Summit. I think that the dealers were kept in the dark by Jeep Australia, so I don't think they are to blame. And, it could be that even Jeep Australia had no intention of importing the Summit at the time when most purchased.
It might just be that they changed their minds.
I know that is little consolation to those who purchased a substitute model, but life just sometimes sucks. The other thing to remember, the MY15 is only 6 months away. He we go again.....

We are now home and I am happy to provide the following owner review on possibly the first '14 to tow into the remote desert areas of NSW, SA and west QLD.
The Jeep, Laredo with ORII, quadralift and Cooper AT/3 ... The van, Jayco off/road Discovery 2T loaded. 8,000k fuel consumption total, 12.8. Best 10.5l/100, worst 13.8 cruising 95-100kph in hilly country.
Suspension, faultless. Used sand mode in desert dunes. Great for levelling van for over night sleeping. Handled rough Old Strezilecky track well. Road from Innaminka to QLD border extremely rough.
Car is completely dust proofed, could hardly believe it. No rattles at all. 8 speed box silky smooth. Played with paddle shift, a lot of fun, then left it D for the most part. More than enough power for towing, easy to forget the van on the rear and use the speed warning chime to avoid fines. The aircon had the usual temp variation issue and will be the only problem requiring attention at first service.
Final verdict ....SHE'S A KEEPER!
I wondered how you got on NC after that battery fail. Good review - I love reading recounts like yours.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Going by the earlier link to the article , jeep have been onto this for a couple of months, and their wish for the summitt has therefore been on the public domain.

BUT, rule number 1 of marketing, is don't promise a new variant until you absolutely know you can deliver it. The only business that says to a customer about to purchase one of their products "there's a new model round the corner, why not wait a couple of months" is a business you want to be in competition with not part of.

Closer to 10+ months (next July for production start). Which means over a year before AU dealers have them.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I think you're right Ally. I certainly do not blame our dealership for the advice that the Summit was not an option for Aus. That is what everyone knew and understood at that time (Feb-March of this year).

Overall, happy with the car, happy with the dealership and happy with Chrysler today actually, because I spoke to them about a software update for '07. It has been released and is ready to be installed.

Two wins today for MY14 and MY07.

Wrong thread but do you use a WDH? I'll be towing a Jayco Discovery too and have Quadralift.
No WDH in use Bigskiddy and no issues experienced. I suspect however that because my van is single axle independent suspension, I may be close to benefitting from WDH. My concern would be off-road articulation issues if I were to use WDH.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Webber m8,

Fear not for here is your solution to the Summit issue. My Summit chrome grille inserts arrived today from the good ol US of A.

Sent on the 22nd August, got here today 5th Sept. Not bad service. Why cant Chrysler get their parts here as quick???

Got the chrome door sill protectors as well, all up $130 delivered to the front door.

All I need now is a bloody truck to put them on!!! The Laredo is still sitting with Prix Cars.

So anyway, Webber, put these on and pretend youve got a Summit.

My Dad does plenty of prospecting, towing a Navigator behind a 120 Prado. He lives on the opposite side of Australia to me, so I don't get much chance to help him out.

Due to the weight of the van on the insufficient rear suspension of the Prado, he had the Reece WDH in use. Out in the middle of nowhere traversing a creek bed, he pretty much ripped the arse off the car. Quoting: "when I first saw it I really thought I was going to be sick".

Articulation in uneven terrain does bad things when everything is leveraged together with a weight distributing hitch. Be careful... road use only.

Cheers,
Steve

Sorry mate I didn't ask what the actual issue was. But this was from the fleet chick at Heartland Motors Sydney. They've got the sh?!ts because they're storing 15 GC's waiting on the camera and wiring harness.
