Only 2 problems here.... some of us aren't old enough to be grumpy old men.... and I would hate to age by 30 years overnight...

And the second is isn't psi a more accurate measurement when there is only one decimal point in the other type of measurement, or do we just assume near enough is good enough... lol

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Regarding the nudge bar for the MY14, I spoke to ECB and they said they will definitely not be doing one as there is no way of disabling the front parking sensors. This will limit them to sell the bar only to Laredo owners and they said it is not worth it.

So I am guessing the same issue with the parking sensor will apply to the Mopar Nudge bar? Is there a way to disable the middle front sensors?

They said with the standard bar the air dam below the bumper is removed and the ACC still works through the cut out in the bar and the front sensors are moved to the bar. Price Quoted $2300 fitted in 3 hours. The Bull bar with steel winch housing behind the bar they have to cut some of the body work so it makes it non reversible which is my dilemma but I must admit I have had a Nissan Patrol with no thought of removing the bar. Because of the winch placement down low they have to move the ACC eye to the bar above the winch. Price Quoted with winch was $4400 and about 4 hours to fit. This also adds more weight to front of the truck but air suspension should handle it.
Hi Butts_Oz

Not sure if you saw my post re ECB Bull Bar as was told to me by sales person at the factory.

Yes I did see your post and it seems ECB are ahead of the game with options. Their webpage also backs up your statement. Mi suppose the main issue I have is how it looks. Yep, sounds precious, but you don't see too many Jeeps going around with a bar on it. I suppose I need to work out how much country and 4WD I'm going to do. The main reason for having my ride is to tow my camper and it does it really well. But I do need to take it places more than just the blacktop.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I have just been reviewing the Maintenance Information and Schedules section on the WK2jeeps.com site and I noticed it gives a different oil filter part number for the 2014 GC CRD as compared with the 2011-13 GC CRD.

The part number of the filter for the 2011-13 V6 diesel is given as 68109834AA while it give the part number for the 2014 V6 CRD diesel oil filter as 68191349AA.

I checked with my dealer and the VIN for my MY2014 CRD specifies 68109834AA.

The reason given on the WK2jeeps.com site for the different oil filter is that using the 2011-13 filter on a 2014 will cause oil leaks. Maybe it is a different oil filter set up for the US diesels but if anyone can throw some light on this, I would certainly be interested.

Then again, it may be an error on the WK2jeep.com site as the same 2014 oil filter specified for the 2014 diesel is also specified for the V6 petrol with the same warning about leaks.

How are the service costs regarding the CRD, what about parts etc... I understand servicing Jeeps is very expensive ?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

My understanding, in regard to the CRD Oil filter, is that for the MY14, they are using the same filter as the V8. Therefore, it is a fraction of the price as the MY13 which had a dedicated filter housing.
The question is whether a MY 14 petrol filter housing can be added to a MY13, therefore eliminating the extraodinary cost of filters.

I have been quoted $65 for the oil filter for my MY14 CRD, which seems pretty high to me -hard to imagine then what the MY13 filter price is?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

The oil filter referred to by Dutch as supposed to be right for the diesel, 68191349AA is available from Mopar in the US very cheaply? Would using a Mopar filter be appropriate under warranty?

kPa might have been preferred, but we're a metricated country. We really should stop sounding like a bunch of grumpy old men and instead lead the way in pushing this last bastion of imperial measurement into history.

I agree! The Australian Tyre and Rim Association Manual is entirely metric. It doesn't even provide conversions. I was totally converted... until I got the Grand and started reading 4x4 mags. It seems that every one out there in 4x4 land is firmly entrenched in psi. I dare say it might have something to do with a somewhat red-neck mentality. Any way, in order to talk tyre pressures with off-roaders, I've been forced to relapse to psi.

America still use horse power (hp) and miles/gallon (mpg). These units are totally inconsistent. Surely if one uses a horse as an analogy for power, one should then measure fuel consumption in terms of bushels per furlong (bpf)

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I would suspect that most people (inclding me) prefer PSI as it is more defined.
For example
PSI.....BAR
26......1.79
27......1.86
28......1.93
29......1.99
30......2.06
32......2.22
Since the Jeep only uses 1 decimal point, some pressures would appear the same if using BAR.

Apologies... "grumpy old men" has recently become a term more reflecting a behaviour than an age group. I should have used quotation marks to indicate the former... and maybe it's not as widely understood as in my circle?

Neither unit is more accurate! The display is not physically limited to two digits so any complaint regarding "accuracy" should be directed at Jeep's implementation of Bar or kPa in the metricised unit settings.

Your assumption is probably more correct than you humour, as I strongly doubt the measurement, transmission and decoding of the tyre pressures is terribly accurate. It's to tell you a tyre is going flat, not that you need to add a little air... it isn't intended to replace the tyre gauge in your box of essentials. I think there's text from Jeep to that effect somewhere.

This is from a PSI trogolodite... and again, I'd have preferred kPa... but don't blame metric units for accuracy concerns.I believe these type of worries are the reason the USA is still using imperial!

Ciao!,
Steve
