Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I broke a Jeep today @ 120 Km
The story so far… Picked up my MY14 White GC Overland 3.0L CRD yesterday earlier than expected and Very Happy with the dealer. Called the RACV to get a cover note before I left the yard, no go as their computer system was down for the day and therefore unable to process the cover note, after sometime managed to get a cover note from a rival company. Put on about 100Km last night just driving around trying this and that. Very impressed with everything I touched. Just love the car.
RACV called this morning and processed another cover note. Now doubled insured, to be sure to be sure. Headed off for a nice long run day, to be sure that I don’t that dreaded "Exhaust filter nearing full” message that I’ve read about here. After about 18 Km on the highway I decided to try out the ACC. All I got was a message saying ACC and the forward collision warning system is unavailable. Electronic Throttle Control needs servicing. It then dropped into limp home mode. 65 Km/H and about 3,000 RPM is all it would do. Pulled over and called Jeep Assist. The vehicle has been trucked back to a holding yard then to the dealer on Monday.
For some reason I still love that car and missing it already.

Dogz...

A potentially brilliant product let down (again). How does this happen? It's not good enough.

Keep us updated.

Oh shit, I just found out my one has been loaded on on ship earlier and is now on its way, tucked in with Summits now, thanks Milous for the update. Means that I will have to make a fast decision, but no details from JA or the dealer. $10k difference sounds a bit steep if it is only upgraded stereo, headlights and grille on the Summit.

On another subject, starting to get a bit nervous about all the reports of towing CDR's !

Andy,

Reliability of Jeep is not on par with that of Japanese, Korean or German brands. Ones who decide to jump on the jeep wagon need to be prepared to bite the bullet if things go pear shape.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Except for the fuel pump failure and QC problem with hose clamp, all the problems appears to be software related. I hope those program engineers in the US are working overtime to get the issues sorted out.

- Adaptive headlights ie: directional, turn-around-corner ones (nice feature but honestly... do you really miss this?)

- 19 speakers Kardan Harmon system vs 9 speaker Alpine system that we have on the Overland (seriously, how many speakers does one really need in an enclosed cabin)

- Chrome grill vs Black grill. (I prefer the black one on the Overland).

- No skid plates available on the Summit.

Have I missed anything? Probably, but in the overall picture, for an extra 10k (which is what I'm thinking the Summit will RRP for against the Overland), I think the Overland is the better option with ORAII added.
Milous, any chance of confirming the Summit spec. Maybe a copy of a build sheet for the AU market.?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

For fun I configured a CRD Summit on the US site. (Expand the 'show what's included' and 'Additional features' buttons)

There is not much more there than we already have on the Overland. Note that it has 'Delete Rear Tow Hook' also. I think the seats might be different also (are they the SRT seats?)

Anyway, not much more there from what I can tell. I wonder if they'll perhaps price it the same as the SRT maybe?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Using this comparison spreadsheet I did when I joined that was never posted in the Export thread here are the STANDARD differences between the Summit and Overland for the US ORIGINAL spec.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...Ta2VGamc#gid=8

● Grille, body-color w/chrome mesh insert
● Front headlamp washers
● 20-in. x 8.0-in. aluminium polished premium wheels
● Harman Kardon nineteen speaker w/subwoofer and 825 watt amp
● Summit embroidery
● Front Park Assist
● Advanced Warning System and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - Adaptive cruise control, Forward Collision Warning (FCW) with Crash Mitigation, Blind-spot Monitoring (BSM), advance brake assist and lane departure warning (Requires Limited Luxury Package)

OPTIONAL Differences
● Summit colour availability: Auburn Pearl Coat, Bright White Clear Coat, Brilliant Black Crystal Clear Coat, Deep Cherry Red Pearl Coat and Granite Crystal Pearl Coat
● Jeep Brown - Interior

Obviously some of the Overland options in the Aus spec cover some standard specs.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I cannot see $10K value in the Summit list.

Wheels - cost of one design over another must be pretty close to nil
Seat embroidery - $$50??
Grille - $100??
Headlamp washers - $100??
Electronics are dirt cheap - Say $500 being generous
Paint - Nil???
Stereo - $500???

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Headlamp washers come on the Overland also so that's not unique to the Summit.

10k is only a guess though. Could be 5k or even maybe just an extra 3k (?) - Who knows, but it would have to be more than the $71k RRP for the Overland wouldn't it?

ETA: Front Park assist is also on the Overland and Limited.
