I know AM is probably old hat, but there are a few of us that still listen to it a bit until Jeep (and other manufacturers) get with the 21st century and fit DAB+ radios, or at least make it available as an option. I mainly listen to sport and talk back (not the shock jock variety) in the car, HiFi is for home.
Seems we're being told to accept patching our cars to make them right ( Snuke), why not plug a DAB+ module into the Aux socket? I just sold an iRiver for a friend who can't bear dealing with the public... it had DAB+ on it I'm sure, and was only a cheap sort of portable music device.

AM should be easy to get right... as should an approximately proportionate amount of bass response. However AM "simply" requires a long antenna away from the bodywork... therefore what you want looks bad, to me anyway. Some manufacturers get the workaround solutions less wrong than others. The common solution of winding up the gain to solve a low antenna signal is where increased interference comes in, as you've turned up the noise also.

I think I've read that the antenna is in the shark fin? If you didn't want to pull the U-Connect out to plug in an alternate antenna you may be able to do it at "the fin". Either way, a vertical antenna is the solution. Maybe on on a big fat spring base?

You have been listening to radio Steve, broadcasting on 522Mhz.

Actually very very few cars get the audio system set up right.
And audio shop owner in Sydney either owned or tried for a while a Lexus RX350. This car comes with a Mark Levinson system. Mark Levinson's engineers were given full access to build the system and Lexus made several changes to accommodate their requirements.
Anyway, it's generally considered a pretty decent sounding system as far cars go. This audio shop owner spent ages tuning it and could not for the life of him get it to sound decent to his experienced ears.

This leads to another point about audio, it's highly personally. When I was shopping for an audio system I read many reviews praising Monitor Audio and BOWERS & WILKINS. Personally I couldn't stand them, too flat for my tastes, there were only two speakers that my ears loved and all others were off in some manner.

I have seen many others complain about the lack of audio adjustments available in the U-Connect system. Maybe you could run all tracks through a program to reduce their low frequency before loading to HDD.
Oh yes my humour holds no limits

I'm aware audio is highly personal as I used to work in the audio production industry; most decent cars manage to deliver a relatively pleasant sound. Not "golden ears" hi-fi, not awesome, but fine for the most. True hi-fi is a joke in cars anyway... there's too much glass. I've tired from throwing thousands of dollars at it, not knowing if it'll end up being what I want to hear at the end.

I'll attempt an adequate fix of the Overland and company's bass response with rockwool, spray foam and perhaps a few left over bits of Dynamat. Some guys reckon they've made enough of an improvement reducing the boomy bass overtone to live with it. If after the surgery I'm not one of them, it comes out... because it's ridiculous.

Before anyone suggests... yes, I have tried turning down the Bass setting

Cheers,
Steve

Milous, I notice you are on this thread from below. I think it's only fair, since I spent two hours scanning the brochure and emailing it to you, that you send me a build sheet for the Summit. Fair's fair.

Today's drama - unconnected screen is blank, restarting made no difference and seems completely dead - no phone , no radio, no climate control ( but air still works!)

Is this common and does anyone know of any solutions?

Reset u-connect by pressing volume and tune buttons in at same time and hold

Yeah, try the reset Pharmaboy as suggested by new2jeepsa.

I've only lost the EVIC once, (dead as the proverbial dodo - but no drama) -never the uConnect though.

What happens after the reset?

Excellent Pharmaboy.

I think that Mute/Tune button combo needs to be printed in that quick tip guide that hangs off the shift changer. It's very handy.

Is this different to doing a factory reset by holding the temp up/down buttons simultaneously, getting the engineering menu and selecting factory reset?
Thanks,
Russell

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Yep Russell. It doesn't take you into the engineering menu. It's just a quick boot of the Uconnect when it's playing up. Mute/Tune.

Not the same as the temp button one that gets you into the engineering menu.
