Any idea on how to reboot the computer?? I really don't want to drive another 5 hours without music!
Hold your Mute and Tune buttons down together. It is a 'soft-boot' for want of a better word.

The rock rails are very rigidly fixed to the vehicle. I can't see how they could possibly affect the operation of the air bags. You are probably refering to the issue with bull-bars. Here is a quote from the Australian College of Road Safety,

"Moreover, vehicle manufacturers claim that in a high speed crash from a vehicle crashworthiness occupant protection perspective, there is some evidence that a bullbar may affect the airbag’s timing, making the airbag inflate too soon or too late to protect someone. In most cases this claim is exaggerated if the fixtures attaching the bullbar to the vehicle do not alter the vehicle’s crumple zone in any significant manner. In the case of low speed minor frontal crashes, it is possible that a badly designed and fitted bullbar can cause airbags to inflate during impacts that would not normally have activated the airbags because of a softer impact into a plastic bumper bar. It is claimed that in extreme cases, the airbags could cause injury to the passengers by the inflating airbag itself. This again is a somewhat spurious claim. It needs to be pointed out that injury resulting from an airbag firing could occur in any impact situation and not necessarily one involving a vehicle with a bullbar. Thus the low impact premature firing of an airbag is more related to considerable cost of repair than in regards to injury."

This is more of a basic reset I, the engineering one requires all user info/settings to be re-entered, Mute/Tune just reset it with current user settings intact.

Always try Mute/Tune first, if that is not good enough, proceed to Temp Up/Down reset.

Basic reset fixed Pharmaboys same problem as you

And if neither of those work, then take the battery cables off for 5 mins to reset everything, including the learning on the gearbox.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

For anyone interested, I have just upgraded my Uconnect to 13.39.51. I was unable to download it from the Uconnect site, but it is available in the VIP section. This is the first user installable Uconnect version for Australia (it is an International version) that I have seen.
I had a problem caused by the fact that the dealer had swapped my radio with that of a car he had in stock. This resulted in my radio not being mated to the car's VIN.
With help from other members, and especially from Willx, we got it resolved. According to Willx, unless the radio has previously been mated to another VIN, this problem will not occur.
Except for this issue, the whole update process took about 20 mins.
I can't speak highly enough of the service that these guys provide to premium members, and would encourage other members to subscribe to support them and to benefit from the additional info and services.
With respect to the new version, I haven't had a chance to examine it in detail, but make the following observations:
- there is a "mirror dimming" button on the "controls" screen, which does indeed dim the interior mirror - although I thought it was automatic anyway, so how useful this is, is yet to be experienced.
- an irritating characteristic before was when going from radio to another media and back to radio, it always went back to a blank FM frequency, rather than the AM station I had been listening to - that seems to be fixed.
- VR seems to be quicker, but that is a bit subjective
- VR for inputting navigation addresses is NOT fixed unfortunately
If I discover anything else I will post it.
Thanks,
Russell

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

You excellent person you Russell. (and brave)

Thank you for that update. Not sure we'll be doing it because the only thing we want is the VR nav fix, and because we don't have any other issues with the uConnect ie: VR is working for all other features and the SD card is behaving itself, we might hang off on that.

But, excellent to know. Thank you.

What subscription level is required to access that uConnect update? Are there instructions on how to perform the update? This is a much better option to waiting for Dealer to do it.

Was just about to ask a similar question, just upgraded membership and can see uconnect updates. Is it the international update?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Here is the link to the description of the various subscription levels, how much they cost, and what you get. They start at US$4.98, and I believe that would get you access to the Uconnect downloads. With the download links is also a pdf of the detailed instructions. I originally took Level IV because I wanted the build sheet, and it certainly does give you access to the Uconnect downloads. For $25 that's pretty good.. I have since upgraded to Lifetime, partly because I think I will be here a few years and its good value, but also as a way of supporting the guys who put in a lot of work on our behalf.

Jeep Garage - Jeep Forum

The downloads on the UConnect 8.4 - 13.39.51 International - VIP thread are the international version, with instructions. You want the one which says Australia, NZ, etc for RJ4 radios.

Absolutely better than waiting for the dealer - mine didn't even have a copy of the version my car came with!

Willx also says that the install is very robust. If anything does go wrong, then starting again fixes it. other than me though, there are a couple of others who have done it with no problems at all.
No responsibility take though!
Thanks,
Russell
