I have no just replaced mine 18" standard tyre's for a chinese made tyre
Its an AT and looks and drives great
They balanced up well only slightly more noisy then the standard tyre which is what i expected going from a road tyre to a AT
Used them off road over the recent long week end and were good better than expected
They have a higher speed rating and load rating than the standard tyre so all good on insurance
I i think if i have to buy 2 sets in the next 80,000 kms then i will still have money in my pocket.
Thanks fwdjeep - can you tell us what brand/model they are?
Russell

Something's amiss with the linked server right now. Either it has crashed, been maxxed out or the file has been pulled. I was all excited to have a go, as I just found a nugget of gold in the U-Connect manual.

Don't delete the data file please vroon... just in case!

Cheers,
Steve

Hey vroon
I have tried to access the System Updates link but it comes up as "Sorry - encountered an application error" every time. Disabled the firewall but same message.
Did you have to register with uConnect first? I did not think possible as it is a US website.

Any other tips?

4 - My opinion is "no", but some will argue they are. To provide a balanced perspective, it depends on the terrain and distance from replacement tyre sources. I believe it's fair to say taking the factory 20" Kumho tyres to the destinations I typically go to would mean you don't KumHome. They are far too soft in the sidewall. I did up a list of alternatives which shouldn't be hard to find if you "go up a level" from this thread.

5 - Similar, but different. A side step will be pretty much destroyed if you allow the ground to contact it to a significant degree while negotiating uneven terrain. It may prevent or limit damage to the sills in the process. A rock rail is less friendly for stepping on as they are a bit slippery, but will handle a substantial amount of the vehicle's weight on it. Touch up the paint or leave the scrape as cred. I have suspicions that removing them at a later date may leave signs of their presence. Others who have actually installed them or at least witnessed it may weigh in on this and clarify.

Cheers,
Steve
Totally agree with everything you say.
Point 4: I got only 10,000km out of the Kumhos. I got a tear right through the tyre cord in the tread area buy just driving on a gravel road. I replaced them with Bridgestone D697's simply because they were the only LT tyre available in that size.
Point 5: I lost both of my side-steps on the one off-road trip. I replaced them with Mopar rock-rail. They are immensely rigid and solidly fixed to the car with 11 high strength bolts each side. The Jeep is already quite stiff but felt even stiffer with the rock-rails.

  • The Jeep trail rating is fairly ill defined. Basically it's marketing to high-light the testing rigour that Jeep undertakes, supposedly. The badges are part of the spec sheet but apparently thrown away when making Aussie vehicles because their prescribed location is exactly where we have the side blinkers. I bought one from JustForJeep and fixed it just above the blinker. Looks shmick if somewhat pretentious. They go on the driver's side, left in the States, right here. Best investment I ever made. For $35+postage, I think I increased the resale value of the Jeep by $1,000.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Bob do you reckon there would be a fair probability of marks being left from the rock rails? The instructions suggest that they're pretty tight on the sill panels.

This might sway some decisions.

I'd like a set because I'm used to much more clearance, but my partner assures me I'm able to avoid crunching the sills. I'll see if she remembers in the event I don't!

Cheers,
Steve

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I was able to download the file completely. It unzipped into the format i would expect it to, so I am quite sure the download was successful. Have not had time to actually run the update yet, will do soon. I am using chrome and was able to start the download again today. I did have to allow the site to run a script though. Was a little extra button in the url bar. Guessing this is just so chrome works with the download software uconnect forces you to use.

In summary use chrome, click the little extra shield icon that comes up to allow the site to download as required.

I hadn't noticed that, used Safari instead, and I almost never use Safari.

I'll check out the VR and media functions tomorrow while driving to see if I can get more response in track recognition. Just thought I'd let you know it is possible for all those still stuck on ver 13.39.4.

Update - I can report that the media functions are far more responsive to VR and the music loads quicker on my SD card. There are some extra settings available like mirror dimming on/off and the side mirrors now dip when in reverse. The upgrade took about 20 mins to complete and there are 10 in-systems updated through this change to 13.39.51. It was worth the effort to complete this without waiting for the dealer to let us know that there was an update. I'm still waiting to be told.
My side mirrors dipped in reverse when it had 13.15.4.
Feature can be turned off too.

Thanks Steve,
Much appreciated for the reply, I spoke to the salesman and he said they can fit a tow hook pretty cheap , only about $1000. I thought he was joking about the price but he was serious.
