GEORGE looks gorgeous .
I bought chrome inserts for my Overland. Want to install but it seems a difficult task. Did you have to remove front fascia?

So I had to take the car back to the dealer. They assure me that it should be ok from here on providing that I do regular highway runs to clear the filter or put additives in the fuel. Unless the dealer is cracking jokes, this seems an impractical limitation of the diesel engine which I was not aware off.

I haven't done any serious 4wdriving as yet but am worried now should this occur while I'm hundreds of kms in the bush, given it doesn't give you a warning that the filter is about to be full (which would be sensible) but rather it tells you that it is and then you're stuck in limp mode and one gear only. There is no way I could enjoy such a trip with that worry hanging over my head. I hate to say this but I am starting to have regrets on purchasing the Jeep.
This is starting to worry me now also, the dreaded DPF issue getting clogged and then having to drive at highway speeds to clear it, if not then going into limp home mode.
I got rid of a Pajero diesel due to this happening more times than i was ok to live with. I knew the Grand Cherokee diesel also had a DPF in the exhaust pipe but i believe it is a lot closer to the engine being at the bottom of the engine bay compared to the middle of the car on the Pajero and thought that the DPF being closer to the engine will have hotter exhaust temps and wouldn't experience this issue. Man, i hope this DPF issue is NOT a common occurance

Ansamoiz, for grille insert procedures follow this link. In the end the dealer fitted them for me.
2014 Grand Cherokee Chrome Grille available?

XDRA10; How did you do the black grille?
Looks good.

Liked the look of the SRT so copied that. Taking the lead from Webber, I got 3M to do it. Cost $150/ 2 hours and looks as good as a paint job.

Got one more procedure to do to the lower grille then thats it.

This happened to me after only 290 kms on the clock. The car had to be towed to the dealer. I was without the car for 4 days. I live close to my work and don't drive much during the week. Now, I have to go for a 30 odd kms drive every second night after work. Not happy at all. I am regretting as well. I was so close to replace my X5 with another brand new one. BMW had X5 M series drive away for $99,999. I was keen to go for that but a friend of mine convinced me to go for Jeep. Considering difference in quality and class, I wouldn't mind spending an extra $19K to get X5. After spending $81K on Jeep and living on the edge all the time........worrying about "exhaust filter nearing full" warning message.....it haunts me all the time.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

The DPF issue is interesting. We first came across it with a friends Pajero issuing the warning and also another friends Skoda Octavia wagon. With the friend who owns the Skoda, he was more annoyed that he was never told that he had to take the vehicle for a 30 minute 'burn' once a week. He's happy to do it and does it now, but I think it needs to be more fully explained when purchasing.

Will the US guys waiting on their Eco-Diesels have the same issue do you think? Or are their CRD's different in someway? If they are not, then should someone perhaps point this issue out to them?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Premature filling of the DPF can be a sign of more serious problems. If engine oil enters the DPF it will clog it causing premature filling. It also doesn't allow the "regeneration" process. Oil can enter it thru the turbo if one of the seals have failed. Normally driving at 60kmh is enough to heat up the DPF and initiate the regeneration process. After a drive if you smell something burning (smells a bit like plastic melting) then this is the DFP burning off carbon deposits. I remember a day or two after we got the car my wife came to me saying that the car was going to catch on fire as she could smell something burning.

Yes - this is what I smell sometimes (maybe once every 10-12 days). Freaky when you first smell it though.

I think I read somewhere (but can't find it again so I'm not sure) that the US models include the use of a fuel additive, which reduces the temperature at which the particles burn off, thus reducing the requirements for getting the exhaust up to high temperatures.

Thanks,
Russell
