The UK article which was posted earlier says that the regeneration cycle requires, among other things, that the accelerator is not backed off for at least 10 minutes while it is in the cycle, which is difficult to achieve when 4w driving. I tried researching this further today and it does appear other car makes have warnings when the DPF is getting full, and/or let you know when regeneration is taking place (so you can keep driving above a certain speed) and/or allow user initiated regenerated. I cannot understand the approach taken by Jeep where there is no warning to allow the driver to cruise at highway speeds to initiate the process, but rather throws you straight into limp mode. For a 4wd this seems comical.

Agree. Should have visual warning in place.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

It seems the DFP issues being discussed are only occurring within the first few hundred km's with brand new cars. Is this correct or have there been later occurances?

Is there any other way to drive it???

Ours has regen'd twice and indicates when it's doing it by way of percentage completed on the dash and a red ring around the analogue style speedo. We haven't noticed any other warnings (DPF full % etc) or had any issues going into limp mode. It did the first regen not long after we took delivery (650kms) so I imagine it was idled for a long time in transit like others that have had issues with their DPF filling up.

My wife drives the GC and doesn't exactly tootle around in it so I imagine it would get a pretty good clean out most days!

I have never noticed this red ring and % info on the EVIC. I must take more notice.

I'm assuming that a regen happened yesterday though because I got that whiff of burning again - it lasted for about 10 seconds - I was doing 90kph's (I took note of the speed) but as mentioned I never noticed anything on EVIC (which is not to say it wasn't there ) Maybe the smell has nothing to do with the regen and something else is burning away....

I have found this in the US manual called Diesel Supplement. I know they have the additive thing going on that we don't, but it seems that a regen is also required on their vehicles as well.

This section does not appear in our manual. (Page 67 on the PDF).

I wonder why?

Page 66 of the Diesel Supplement mentioned above is interesting. US version gives adequate warning and also tells you when the regeneration is in progress and when it completes.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Looks like there are other options to get rid of the DPF problem, attached is a website from the UK, but bound to be other service providers elsewhere in the world. Obviously doing anything during warranty is pretty stupid in compromising warranty but afterwards worth looking more into. In the mean time when mine finally arrives I will be using the expensive low ash Mobil oil, BP diesel and pretending I driving like it is stolen sometimes so that dreaded lock out doesn't come on. With the intelligence of the Jeep system not sure why they can' have pre warnings or even an app on your Iphone interfaced to the jeep mgmt. system giving an alarm about high build ups.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Are you guys sure the MY14 CRD's have active DPF regen? MY11-13 CRD's have passive DPF regen. There is no regen cycle. The DPF cleans itself by being close-coupled to the exhaust manifold.

Don't know Bob, and it never crossed our mind until both Chooke and Ansamoiz posted about the error messages they received and going into limp mode.

That's what started the conversation but the passive DPF regen makes sense because: 1) it would have been included in the manual and 2) Enforcer for example, having his CRD for over 2 years has never experienced such a thing (and I'm sure if there were other's we would have read about it being an issue. There are a hell of a lot of CRD '12 and '13's out there afterall).

Perhaps Chooke and Ansamoiz '14's were anomalies and we should assume a passive regeneration and untie the knickers.
