Jeep 4x4 Trail Rated decal

If you're interested in one of these there is a guy on ebay selling a few of black or red decals quite cheaply. I picked up a black one for $15 delivered. It appears genuine and weighty and looks cool on the front guard.

+1 - just experienced a colleague going through the same situation. His engine blew, but extended warranty (insurance cover), would only cover parts up to $1000.00 - not including the labour to disassemble the engine. Really crazy sort of cover. In the end, he bought a new engine, paid $6K in all, and they would only pay $1K.

In fact what is the purpose of any warranty, given your Consumer rights under the ACL?
These are good points which is why I am seeking a refund on my extended warranty which as limitations compared with a factory warranty - which is what I thought I was purchasing. The advantage of an express warranty is that it brings certainty to any claims, so for example, in the case of the Jeep standard 3 year warranty you know that Jeep will repair at their own expense anything that goes wrong in that period - apart from consumables and neglect. Relying on a statutory warranty can be problematic, for example if the alternator goes in year 1 it is likely that the manufacturer has to replace it, but year 3 the manufacturer could argue, depending on what went wrong with it, that it is part of normal wear and tear and then it would be a negotiation on how much the customer should contribute. If it was a total engine failure then that would likely be the manufacturer's problem as an engine is expected to last much longer than that.

To me that was the attraction of purchasing an extended factory warranty. The warranty I got instead is not better than what my statutory rights would be, in fact it is worse as I'd be tied into dealer servicing so far out into ownership and frankly, by the time the Jeep is two or three years old I'd rather have my own choice of mechanic to service it.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I understood your points. The point I was making is that the longer you have the product in question, the less certain is a claim that it should be rectified by the manufacturer/retailer at no cost, let at alone at all under a statutory warranty. It is a question of what is reasonable given the nature of the product, its price, its intended use etc. Under the new consumer laws, a manufacturer/warranty can give a warranty in addition to the statutory rights but not less. For example, one of the reasons why you are not tied into dealer servicing under a manufacturer's warranty is because your statutory rights, and any claim, would be strong in the first year or two and provided your car was serviced correctly, it is not relevant to a claim. Extended warranties are a bit of a grey area for motor vehicles because they provide lengthy factory warranties to begin with.

I worked at fair trading for a number of years and the biggest problem is enforcing your statutory rights when you have owned the product for some time. From my experience, unless it is an extreme case, the magistrate usually encourages the parties to find a compromise solution and if not, they tend to compromise themselves. I have rarely seen a magistrate give a consumer 100% of a claim in motor vehicle cases when the vehicle is more than a few years old. However, this is no worse than the Jeep branded third party warranty as that also has pro-rata contributions and you need to pay for diagnosis, which is why they are not worth much - in fact, $2,8000 is highway robbery.

Rob, I think your car looks excellent. Love the Summit Grille with the black background. Members once thought I would be the Jeep Garage "Bling" king but I have mellowed. I think that title may well belong to you. I am now thinking the Summit Grille may not show enough contrast on my Bright White Car. JosephR put me onto some very nice chrome surrounds that wrap around the headlights. I am very interested in those but would like to see them "in the flesh" before committing. Have you come across those yet? They do look "classy" in pictures.

Spot on. It has grown on me. I was wanting the Summit. Milous told us the Summit was coming. My dealership told me Milous talked crap. I was very disappointed to find out the Summit is in fact coming but the Overland has better off road capabilities and I only have one ear that works so 19 speakers would have been useless with me as I basically only hear "mono" anyway. I did however like the extra chrome on the Summit and the Summit Grill but I prefer the all over paint on the Overland whereas the Summit has the two tone colours around the bottom edge of the car so all in all their were plusses and minuses. What the exercise really showed us though was that Chrysler Aust mislead my dealership because Chrysler Aust denied that the Summit was coming. As a result my dealership thought Milous' was some ill informed crank. We all know now with hindsight that Milous is KING and it is Chrysler Australia that is full of crap.
I do not like dishonesty and that is Chrysler Australia. They were informing dealerships we would not get the Summit even though Milous had all the Aussie specs. Those of us following the site are also aware, thanks to Milous, that long before the first cars arrived Chrysler in Detroit had shipped a black Summit to Chrysler HQ in Port Melbourne. I wonder why they wanted that when they were denying we were ever going to bring in the Summit. Whilst I love this car you can see why Car salesmen, dealers, etc are at the very bottom of the "ethics" listings.

When my turn comes to upgrade again I will be far more distrusting. At my age in life I should have known better....anyway, let me re-iterate, I still love my Overland but next time I won't let Chrysler Australia try to mislead me into suspecting that Milous may be wrong. The lesson to learn is trust Milous and suspect your dealer.

.....and by the way gsw80, is that colour the Billet or is it Cashmere.

Still no start / stop ACC in the SRT, only August + build Overland at the moment.
I know that was a major point for not upgrading already.
They can't get the pedal feel right with the Brembo's with Start/Stop.

Hi Webber,

It is billet, I'm just a really bad photographer. I must admit I love it and why I am such a big wrap on Crick Noosa is they told the truth all the way along. I started looking for this vehicle 12 months ago. I wasn't ready to buy then but their patients and understanding always has my return business. Like all car enthusiast I just love going to the dealer to kick tyres and talk sh....

Next time you talk to a a dealer speak to him about the making of false or misleading representations in connection with the promotion and supply of goods or services, or the prohibition of unconscionable conduct under Australian Consumer Law.

Thanks for the info. There is a catch that it is the dealers warranty, not Jeeps or another party. I was told this upfront, the so called genuine extended warranty is for only 2 years and costs $2200, through Cricks I get and extra year plus a cost saving as this extension is $1500. Does require most of the servicing through the dealer, but if we are away interstate say, it only requires a phone call to them so they can check it off on their system. So all in all happy with that, time will only tell if it's worth it.
Saving grace for Cricks is that so far their service and follow up has been exceptional.
