Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

So, YOUI are good if you never drive the car, never have a claim and it never leaves a secure lockup?

In fact a friend arrived here this afternoon in his new Subaru and looked forlornly at the clumps of dirt attached and said 'do you mind if I borrow your hose before I come in for a drink'

It's so depressing seeing the schmicky pics that you guys post.
It is a shame as Deep Cherry Red is potentially the best colour BUT ONLY when seen on the showroom floor. My heart wanted DCR but my head purchased Bright White with no regrets....looks great. Unfortunately, in your locale perhaps Silver would have been best for hiding dirt/dust. It is frustrating as I have experienced years of living on dirt roads. Fortunately, over the years bitumen finally made it out our way....but then you still have the long driveway or paddock to contend with. Could you use the 07 to transport your MY14 to and back from the front gate on a tandem.

All this insurance talk.. Has anybody actually ever had to make a claim, and what was the experience? Ive tried NRMA, GIO, AAMI, Just Car, RACQ, Suncorp, Shannon's, CBA and probably a few others over the years, and have had to make claims for Thefts, And numerous not at fault accidents, and have found by far that the easiest to work with were NRMA and RACQ. repairs were done well and getting them looked at and the whole over the phone experience was flawless. If you like aguments go with Shannon's, if you want a crappy repair go with AAMI.

At he end of the day I wouldn't mind paying a little more for the peace of mind knowing any claim will be smooth and repairs will be of a good standard.

I almost didn't bother with Youi, as this happened the last two time I got a quote from them.
The other shocker was Coles, it started out saying $670, then somewhere along the questions, I pissed it off and it doubled. Yet these same answers didn't set the others off.

SNUKE, I did Coles online and it said to contact them. Rang them up and it was to do with car being valued at over $70000. Their first quote was $1450 told them I had been offered cheaper and they beat it. They are now saying $850 with windscreen. Woolworths offers me 8c a litre off fuel which was good and a $50 fuel card. Their quote was $900.

It is 4c on top of their 4c discount available with in store purchase, and last for one year only. For us worth approx $72.
We have already had the $50 voucher with current car.

" The extra 4c per litre fuel saving for Woolworths Car Insurance policy holders is in addition to, and can only be used in conjunction with a fuel saving voucher received in-store when spending $30 or more in one transaction at a Woolworths supermarket"

I just did NRMA, $1100 ish without fine tuning, stopped as GIO Platinum seems to be the go for us, or Woolworths if it was just price.

Andyp911, how very right you are. At first driving a 25 yr old Toyota Corrolla, manual, was a bit of fun but after a couple of months it wears a bit thin. Funny how much you miss the little things, cup holder, arm rest, elct windows, central locking. It is so low to the ground when I come up behind a decent 4wd I can see straight underneath it, not a very comfortable feeling.

I had to make my first ever car insurance claim for my windscreen with Allianz.
They called up O'Brians while I was on the phone to the Allianz claims people, then they put me through to O.Brians arrange the install time. Due to having the check stock, they had to call me back to confirm the availability of the screen.

They were going to use a O'Brians branded screen, so I insisted on OEM.
They needed to confirm with Allianz the extra cost, which was done in an hour.

I must admit, I was expecting a tough time to get OEM, but it was all done smoothly. From time of call to install was under a week, as the screen needed to come from Melbourne.

Allianz is I think the only Insurance company that offers 24 month new for old car replacement as standard, aside from the Platinum policies.

The run on the beach was not eventful with both hard and soft sand an easy ride. I dropped tyre pressures to 20 psi and enjoyed the ride up the beach. Very comfortable and now I have no issues taking on Fraser Island. The inland route back was another story. In SEQLD we've had no rain to speak of for months and the sand was deep, soft and hot. I decided it was time for low range and moderated the height from ORII & ORIII. I have to say I now have heaps of confidence taking my Jeep off-road, especially on sand. Clearance is great and we didn't hit underneath at all. There was evidence of a few bogged vehicles with recovery efforts recently which makes it interesting when the track is all chopped up. My concern was the extra front support with the Overland, not anymore. We never hit once. For my first 4WD, this is a great vehicle and after a good day out, the managing director wants to go back for another dose of beach driving tomorrow. I think I need to retire early and just head into the sunset. Next weekend, the camper comes out again. Can't stop driving this great vehicle.
Hi Butts,

Thanks for your comments, it's great to hear that it all went well for you. I'm in a similar boat to you, this is my first 4wd (well real 4wd, the outback was half) and we are going to Teewah this weekend, it will be my first time driving on the beach proper. Did you remove your front air dam? Do you have mud flaps?

We will be heading up on Friday, get on the Noosa ferry sometime early afternoon and then take to the beach one the tide looks out enough. Anybody on the thread who has any experience doing this section of beach (which of the 3 cuttings to take), any advice is greatly appreciated.

Corey
