Auscop - You also need to check with them that they did the N58 flash to the instrument cluster and ABS module. My guess is that they didn't if the Uconnect hadn't been done (or maybe I'm just cynical and they did the N58 but not the Uconnect).

This is the recall that is also posted on the Aust Govt recall site. Here is the TSB from the WK2 site:

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/rc_N5813.pdf

and the Govt recall site:

Fiat Chrysler Group

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

The Forward Collision Warning activated when a car in front of me slowed down to turn right. As it was the first time it happened I almost jumped out of my seat, alarms and "stop" red light on the dash. After reading in an earlier post that it also applies the brakes. I went into setup and and ticked the Forward Collision Warning with Active Brake, but when I changed screens it reverted back to the unticked state.
Is there some way of saving the settings?

Warren

Happened to me yesterday. Gives you a bit of fright doesn't it.

Re: the settings. It must be running to change and save the ticks against the check box.

The brakes will only be applied if it thinks you are not braking enough. That has only happened once (to my husband). Prior to that, the system has activated 3 times without additional braking pressure - obviously it was happy with the braking by the human those times, so additional braking does not happen every time.

Only a slight correction... It won't hit the brakes if you are already pressing them. It will engage the brake if you have not shown the vehicle you are reacting to the situation in the alloted time. It can't "add" braking power, it simply will engage the brake for you but only momentarily giving you the opportunity to "get on them" yourself.

Yep had that happen to my wife once and myself twice.. The last time chances are I would have rear ended a taxi if it hadn't been for the warning. I am not sure why it beeps at you, I would think an audible voice stating Brake, Brake could save valuable 10ths of a second...

Willx - my husband would disagree with you there. He says he was hitting the brake pedal, but it pulled down away from his foot. I wasn't there so I can only report (and even if I was, I couldn't get down in the foot well to check ) but it was what surprised him so much (and the first and only time it has happened - even though he had experienced the FCW system three times prior) but I quote him 'It was a bizarre feeling - I was braking - every bugger behind and to the side of me was braking, of course I was braking, but not to the extent that that pedal went down'

He felt the vehicle taking over even though he was braking (and he is very quick off the mark).

The manual does state:

If the driver reacts to the warnings by braking and the system determines that the driver intends to avoid the collision by braking but has not applied sufficient brake force, the system will compensate and provide additional brake force as required.

He thinks that is what happened.

Excerpt from the manual
"If the driver does not take action based upon these progressive warnings, then the system will provide a limited level of active braking to help slow the vehicle and mitigate the potential forward collision. If the driver reacts to the warnings by braking and the system determines that the driver intends to avoid the collision by braking but has not applied sufficient brake force, the system will compensate and provide additional brake force as required."
