Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Got a call today from the local dealer, my tow bar for Baa Baaa has arrived. Got a couple of questions for you guys..

1) Was told a dealer needs to fit it as the computer "may" need reprogramming once fitted. I fitted my last tow bar myself no issues, although it was only a Terracan. Has anyone fitted their own tow bar?

2) Was told it could take 6 hours or more to fit, so at the moment the labour costs could be more than the cost of the bar. Does 6 + hours sound excessive to you?

If the computer needs adjusting I can't see why I can't fit it and then take it in to them to do their thing..

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Your computer needs programming because the bar ads mass to the rear and this in turn effects the trajectory of the rockets in Woomera.
If the local yanks know your bar has been fitted without a re-programming of the computer, they will put a hit out on you.

6 hours to fit includes smoko and blotto time, that takes an hour. Once they wake up after a 3hr siesta, they get to work. So yes 6hrs seems fair.

Sounds like your dealer needs to switch to Opal fuel.

Edit: Just realised the 2hrs I was quoted by local installer may have not included installing brake controller.
I just crawled under the car, I can't see how it could take 6 hrs without electronics being included.

the 2014 bar has a different part number TO MY11-MY13 - AUS2014WKTB

Aus - Our towbar was fitted 6/7 weeks or so ago at the 10,000km service.

Not aware that they had to do any 'reprogramming' associated with it.

The service did take a few hours but that also included the recall N58 which we know takes a couple of hours.

So, total time from drop-off to pickup which included:

- Service (oil change/filter change/rotation of tyres/general service stuff like brakes etc)
- N58 flash
- towbar supply and fit
- air cylinder check/remove and resecure

was about 5 hours.

I think the towbar supply and fit would have taken maybe an hour and half, perhaps 2 in all of that (?) but I can imagine they perhaps would have done that whilst the N58 flash was doing its thing. (just a guess though).

6 hours does seem excessive.

I have to be missing something here !!!
Is there a way to leave parkers on if you leave the car on the side of the road at night.??
Rotate the light knob clockwise one click from the 'off' position.

Problem downloading Uconnect update patch from driveuconnect.com/support/jeep

IE 11 and google chrome: after clicking link System Updates, it says "Sorry....Encountered an Application Error"

Firefox: got through the link ok, Key in VIN and follow onscreen instruction but after installing Akamai, it stops there.

Any one knows what might be the causes? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that. I was trying with the motor running.

If supply and fit costs anymore than about $950-$1000 then they are really ripping you off .

Will do.
If I get in to any good spots during the trip I'll try to post a couple pics.
Thanks for your compliment.

I got quoted $1100 - $1200 by several dealers for official Mopar one, and $900 by a local 4WD place that make towbars and bullbars.
