The dealer told me the same thing when I bought my Jeep 2 months ago.

Remember there are different types of UV

"As the Cancer Council Australia Position statement states:
  • UV radiation levels inside a car vary depending on factors such as whether the side windows are open or closed and the orientation of the vehicle with respect to the sun.
  • They are generally much lower than outside in full sunlight, varying from as low as 4% up to 50% of the ambient UV radiation outside the vehicle.
  • Clear autoglass (side windows) blocks about 97% of the UVB radiation and about 37% of UVA radiation.
  • Laminated windscreens block all of the UVB radiation and about 80% of the UVA radiation.
  • Clear windscreen films can reduce the transmission of UVR further so that as much as 97% of the UVA is blocked. This depends on the quality of film used.
  • Clear or tinted films can also reduce the amount of UVA and UVB penetrating through the side glass. The amount of protection varies with different products.

So, our recommendation is that if you're not spending a lot of time in the car with your children every day, there's really no need to get window tinting. However, it's a wise choice if you're spending much of your day behind the wheel such as a sales person or a truck driver would."

Thanks Snuke, but still doesn't tell me what properties the Mopar deep tint sunscreen glass possess.

If window tinting is purchased as a part of car sales contract, then it'll be subject to LCT regardless when it's actually installed. However, if it's purchased separately later on after taking the delivery, no LCT will apply. Hope this clarify.

Technically not correct, however I know it happens this way all the time. Its a difficult one for the ATO to police

I know, but people having being saying UV, which is misleading, as there are two different types that need to be considered when looking for an answer.
So it is easy for them to say it blocks UV, when what they mean is UVB, and not UVA.

So, as we all have laminated windscreens these days, "UV" tint doesn't functionally do much (apart from possibly blocking the final 20% of UV).

I'm only getting the tint for glare / aesthetics anyway, plus I don't like bright lights so I think I'll stick to basic tints. If the leather fades or yellows, I don't think the 20% exposure is going to be a large factor in this

She tells me in order to explain and understand LCT you need to know that LCT is a dealer tax that they on charge to customers. (Kind of like a credit card fee).
The dealer is responsible for making adjustments to their BAS in regards to the LCT they collect on accessories. Eg: they should be asking for your rego or vin when selling after market products to you, and then claiming their LCT payment from you (the customer) so they can pay it to the ATO, making adjustments along the way. If they neglect to do this, then I guess they could allocate the sale of that accessory to anyone who has walked in off the street.

Ill get the relevent ATO document when the misses isn't knitting......
No wonder this county is going down the sink hole at 100mph typical of government just out o get as much as they can from us so they can waste it and give it away
Time to stop this nonsense we are being TAXED to death

So what's stopping dealerships from putting it through as a 'cash sale' on their books?

Basically the same law that states you are not allowed to steal, or that you must pay tax. Theoretically the dealer could do what you propose, but would be fined if caught out. Not many dealers would risk such a fine, and the dreaded followup tax audits, just to appease a customer. i.e. What's in it for them?
Simple solution is to buy your car without accessories, then have them added at the first service.
Please also note items like paint protection, carpets, headlight covers etc are also included in LCT calculations.
