Hi!
The Uconnect screen on my 2014 GC Ltd went blank 2 weeks before Christmas. Had it checked by the dealer - the hardware is to be replaced when the parts arrive. However ........
- I just read Snuke's reboot options ...... So I hi-tailed it to the garage to try them out - no luck :-(
I guess I'll have to wait for the parts after all.

Front ground clearance not to specification - diesel coil spring model. I bought a coil sprung model - 2014 CRD Limited. After a week on Fraser Island and a weekend on Straddie I saw the need to improve the cars sand performance a little. SWMBO has a poor back so a full lift kit is out of the question (at this stage). I decided to change the wheel & tyres to 265/60R18's (same diameter as 265/50R20's) for a bigger footprint @ ~15lb tyre pressure, & fit steel underbody protection. On close inspection I found the front ground clearance to be 212mm measured under the plastic sump "guard" - specified in the brochure to be 218mm. I suspect additional Diesel engine weight over petrol may be the culprit as the brochure quotes the same clearance for both. I am interested if anyone with a petrol version could verify? I chose to fit a CRDSTU 12mm spring packer, along with the wheel/tyre and steel Mopar protection plate changes previously mentioned. The car now has 230mm clearance! :-) Next stop - the beach!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Let me be the first to wish Jeep Garage Members a ....Happy New Year.
Looks like the Gods have looked down on me "cause so far I have been very lucky with my Jeep. Practically nothing gone wrong. Feel for you guys that have had those unacceptable problems I have been reading here of recent. Not good enough to say, "go on to the Mercedes site", Beamer or "Toyota" site. They are experiencing the same issues as we are. These are "pricey" new cars. It is difficult for me to accept these things going wrong. Just wanted to finish 2013 off bitching.

Hi Benaldo

Over the last 15 years I have driven on the beach on Morton and Fraser with a Nissan Patrol with no problems in soft sand. How did you find the inland tracks and soft approaches to the beach. I have a JGC Overland and will try some sand soon but in the short term I will be towing a caravan which will be built by end of Feb.

Nice plates Sick Truck!
Sounds like we have trodden similar paths. I've been going to the islands since the 70's and still addicted. Had a few vehicles over the years Subaru's, Pajero's, Patrols and a Rodeo ute. They all have their good points.
I was on Fraser in September with the Jeep & trailer - bogged twice in the week. First time on Inskip - I made 50 metres horizontal then 300mm vertical! - though I must say that everyone towing was going down that day.

The concern I have for 2014 GC owners intending to tow in 4X4 situations is the lack of a front recovery point on these vehicles. On Monday Jeep Albion said they are now available - so I have ordered one - not sure what it is. I've also invested in some Maxtrax but have not used them as yet.

I am still getting used to the computer controlled traction, as I find it's behaviour less predictable in sand than a conventional part-time 4x4 system.
The book says when in low range drive is mechanically transferred 50/50 front and back. I used to good effect when towing over beach entries. The only drawback being the 40 kph speed limit in Low which became an issue when the vehicle was negotiating a deep sandy turn - speed is around 40 - the wheels spin in wheel holes (alternately left and right) - the computer thinks the car is over 40 kph and cuts power - then resumes power as the wheel speed slows - & cuts it again if the the wheels spin - surging through the turn - very unnerving in a soft sand situation - but I must say that the car made it through with no other issues.
I truly wish the engineers stopped trying to make the cars "smart" enough to save us from ourselves.I will ask for it to be disabled.
Your Overland has Quadralift and a locking rear diff - so you have a distinct advantage over my vehicle. I saw some of these at Straddie recently - went well. All had 17 or 18" tyres.
I am looking to buy a camper van or touring van soon - what did you decide to buy?

By this time I was running out of explanation marks and left. They had clear the car (obviously something within their capabilities).
Bloody hell. It's no wonder this country is going down the gurgler with the intelligence of above. In 9 weeks that update will be outdated / updated.

I love this attitude of some dealers, "just drop in and we'll look at it" do they think we just sit around all day, we work to pay for these cars. How about you drop past my place and fix it!!

If we can't make a washer that works, what hope have we got. It wasn't the washer that failed, it was the so called mechanic that failed in his ability to do up a bolt.

Oh yeah and Happy New Year!

In some defence for the dealer, they have been using supplied discs forever as part of their normal procedure. And with the dramas you can have trying to get the file with that stupid download system, I can understand not using it. It took four browsers for a lot of us to get it.

The TSB states that the disc wouldn't be available until Dec 20th, so again, only just available. Odd for something where the file system shows this update was created Oct 28. I guess there was a testing period of 6 weeks or so before it went gold.

I am having a Spinifex 20 ft off road caravan built and will be checking at all stages of build as there factory is in Deception Bay. I hope to post progress photos on The Towing thread on Jeep Garage forum in Feb. I have been researching for over 12 months and visited the factory several times and seen excellent finish and nicely laid out electronics. It is fully set up for free camping with solar 3 panels 3 batteries diesel heater and more.

Sounds like a really nice unit. I will keep a look out for your updates in Towing.
