I worry about the bumper too, especially when the track is good for a bit over 40km/h but the mound is too high for standard height. Were you lowered because of the speed limitation, or just because QL likes to revert every ignition cycle? I think I'm going to have to fab something to take the place of the lower bumper section, as I'm sick of the aftermarket's "gunna" stories. That camera is pricey, so are the guard liners I hear BobT had to replace... I reckon you got off lightly! Actually, did you hear there's a mod to stooge the QL speed sensor to give an additional 20km/h (from memory) in each off road mode? I emailed the guy... of course no answer.

Don't mention missing Ikons please Wade, I'm about to advertise my Prado... with just a hint of reluctance. Maybe I'll go beat up on the Powerline one last time before I clean it up

Can't wait to check out your custom storage... I wish I could have committed.

Cheers,
Steve
The vacuum didn't do a very good job so I cheated and used my air compressor , compressed air does a great job of getting sand out of cars. It made short work of getting all the sandy grease out of the sunroof rails too.

The QL had lowered after re starting the car I believe, I certainly wasn't going over 40kmh at the time. I think I might do a back flip on the bullbar, between planning a few trips up north this year and better offroad protection it's starting to seem like the smartest option for me.
I haven't heard about that mod but I'd be interested if you get any more info.

Wade

Good work Peanut.

Did you find any identification on the original camera to indicate its origins or whether it had a Jeep part number?

Quick question, is there a preferred washer fluid? Or it doesn't really matter?

I was heading along the beach with a Wrangler probably a few years older. The driver radioed in and mentioned that the trans temp warning had been on... maybe for a while as the sun was on the instrumentation. He had started looking because he could smell something.

So I held up and got out for a chat while it cooled. After a significantly longer period than usual with the engine running in neutral, the light went out. I turned the car off as everything else was pretty damned hot... including the floor... then cleared some sand from under the lowish little beast for a look.

I was amazed to see that the auto trans bash plate had a leading edge, which had been collecting sand from the centre mound and then packing it nicely around the gearbox. It was pretty choked and took some freeing!

The owner said the car was as supplied new from the dealer. The design was quite stupid, unless something in front was missing...

Cheers,
Steve

I didn't time our trip out of Point Peron so well, and the sun went down about an hour before we'd get to Carnarvon. We rolled into town almost two hours later having travelled closer to 60km/h for the distance I kept waiting for a truck to catch us up, but it was just us, the roos, the goats and the cows.

I understand your thoughts to backflip! You know where ARB is right???

Ciao,
Steve

MY14 LAREDO CAMERA

Well, I'm taking the plunge and installing the "JEEP" supplied rear park camera.

I know that the general consensus of opinion is that its a load of shit and dont bother.

I have just phoned our "helpful" Jeep Customer Information Line. Been advised cannot complain against the standard of the camera based on "everyone elses opinion" ie the Forums, her words.

The complaint must be originated at the dealership first by myself.

As if Jeep Aust doesnt monitor the JG Forum

So if its installed and as expected its crap, then watchout Jeep Aust.

The full extent of Hymers wrath will be on its head.

PEANUTS experience will be trotted out as an example where a $20 camera is better performed than the Jeep "OEM" product.

As well as all their advertising material, as well as their "quality" promise.

So, Jeep Aust, bring it on.

Hope theyre reading this!

Any other MY14 Laredo rear park camera complainant please feel free to PM me.

CHOOKE has already initiated his actions and is just waiting for an official response from Jeep Aust. (Hope he can read Italian!!)

Bluey

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Go Bluey.

If you're able, grab a couple of photos of the video connection. It'd be great if you could pin out the connections... PM me if I can help. The big win for you Laredo guys is if we can source you a "plug and play" alternative... and then back-bill Cry Jeep Dodgy

Cheers,
Steve

Gear Display

Despite owning the Jeep for nearly 6 months, I only realised today (or more correctly it was pointed out to me) that the gear the vehicle is in is displayed on the dash as a subscript next to the D symbol. The reason I never noticed before is partly because the gear display is so small but mainly because it is not backlit like the letter D. I'm not sure it this is a fault or whether it is another of those quirky Jeep things so I'm wondering whether the gear number is backlit on your display?

NB Bluey - no worries, I am Italian...

No the gear number is not back lit and can be turned off completely in settings through the radio.
The camera I removed was authentic jeep part numbered and also made in China.
