I'm not sure it this is a fault or whether it is another of those quirky Jeep things so I'm wondering whether the gear number is backlit on your display?

NB Bluey - no worries, I am Italian...
Small, not back-lit and definitely quirky. Squinting helps, as well as sticking your face through the steering wheel. That could just be me of course.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

In the spirit of 'Forewarned is Forearmed' and with regards to this SMH article about a woman locked inside her A3...

Woman locked inside Audi Q3 on 41-degree day

...should this ever happen with the JGC, I've checked the manual that states that a backup method is to put the nose side of the fob against the Engine Start/Stop and then push to operate the Ignition switch.

I did a search and found this thread, however, Willx's reply suggests that you must pop the cap of the Ignition switch and insert the fob. The guy in that thread has an MY11 though also.

Key fob not recognized

It appears then that the backup method has changed between year models but does anyone know definitively whether this is the case?

So for the MY14, do we 'hold against and press' or do we 'pop and insert'?

For MY14 there is no longer a removable button, so it is as per your manual, "hold and press".

NOTE: In case the ignition switch does not change with
the push of a button, the RKE transmitter (Key Fob) may
have a low or dead battery. In this situation a back up
method can be used to operate the ignition switch. Put
the nose side (side opposite of the emergency key) of the
Key Fob against the ENGINE START/STOP button and
push to operate the ignition switch.

The dealer explained this to me as part of the new car pickup... others didn't get this?

Thanks Snuke. I did read that part of the manual but I think I was just confusing myself with reading other threads. to myself.

No Andrew, but that was more our fault really because we just wanted the keys and to go.

I've also just acquainted myself (by reading the manual) with the emergency liftgate latch release on the trim panel should the electrics fail for whatever reason and you can't get out via doors or used of course, in a more likely scenario of just your liftgate failing but the rest of vehicle is fine. I didn't know that was there though so handy to know.

Well, I've decided on a JGC Limited CRD with Lux II. Due to arrive mid feb. Very excited. I'm wondering what luck/experience people have had in ordering accessories online? I've had a heap of stuff quoted by the dealer and, well, it's very expensive. Over $500 for rubber mats front to back and $1600 for the black tubular side steps. Any experience or advice would be great.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

You could try Mopar USA through sites like Amazon below - I purchased my genuine Jeep side steps, mud flaps, rear cargo mat and door sill trims through that site and it worked out considerably cheaper (half price after fitting) including taking into account the exhange rate and delivery costs.

I negotiated all accessories I wanted sans side steps into my deal.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Since the majority of dealers screw up the orders, you can generally get all your accessories free after you scream and kick up a fuss when pointing out their mistakes.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Rubber floor mats ("slush mats") for 2014 RHD are the only accessory I want that don't seem readily available through cheaper sources yet. I forgot to include them in the deal and the dealer wanted $190! I guess I'll just wait until I wear through the carpet mats like I always seem to and price them up then.
