That is pretty general, the petrols will be worse than the diesels. I have a 2005 Landcruiser sahara diesel (180,000kms), it cost about $90k new. The best trade price I was offered was $35k, but I saw an almost identical one advertised 2 weeks ago for $49k at a Brisbane car yard (nice margin), sold now, not sure how much it went for, but I'm guessing close to the advertised price. I'm hoping to sell mine privately for low-mid $40k, but if I did get $45k, that is 50% over 9 years.

The former will be interesting to see! I'd hate to be a VW owner banking on a certain resale value and watching them take a public shellacking over their DSG issues.
Yep, the Toyota brand has a lot of currency in the 2nd hand market. Parts are easy to get, everyone knows how to fix them, and I think another thing that helps their value is the new ones are so expensive, and don't change that much. As I said earlier, the Prado is still the same car 10 years later.

Some of the risks I see for the Jeep is the lack of parts (that could change), the complex diesel and electronics (even the dealers don't know how to fix them), the cheap cost of new ones (that might change if the AUD devalues a bit), and changes to the design (the 8sp is probably going to be preferred in the 2nd hand market to the 5sp, future changes to the drivetrain may also be preferable pushing down the price of the previous MY).

All crystal ball stuff, I don't tend to buy for resale, so I don't care all that much.

Yep. Cars that are expected to have good resale tend to be priced higher in the beginning, so you pay for it one way or another I think.

Even second hand they are overpriced and still over rated.

Better the money in my pocket than somebody else's, Warren That was the reason I salary sacrificed it in the first place....... To make a little cash at the end, which I did I just wish the quality of build/warranty issues on my Jeep were the same as the Prado ie, zero

This thing (GC) is smashing sales at the moment, so there's no reason (bar major reliability problems, are you listening CJD Australia?) that it can't do the same as The Prado in a few years time.

Anyone who thinks that they'll get back the full difference between the base model and a more premium version at sale time is kidding themselves. The used car industry doesn't work that way. The more well appointed you go, the greater the loss at sale time. So, if you own an Overland, expect to only get a couple of grand more than a Laredo in 3-5 years time. For the used car buyer, all those extras are "nice to have's". Price point rules in used car sales.
There is truth in what you are saying BUT a Laredo loaded up with Extras is just that....EXTRA'S with no payback (or perhaps a little if you have negotiated well with the dealer and you are trading it in on a new Jeep). They are not Extras on the Overland....it is STOCK STANDARD. Obviously though, as cars age the gap between a Laredo and an Overland must come closer together because you are now dealing with cars (2010) around $33K. for a Laredo as against 37K for an Overland. All the extras on the Laredo were extras and you may not get money for them in return....that is not to say the dealer won't get extra. All the standard equipment on the Overland which would be extra's on the Laredo are now all second hand and they cannot maintain their value. But then their is the satisfaction, joy and prestigious feeling you received (which carries no dollar value but value all the same) that you got in owning an Overland for several years. You only live once. However, one should not go above what they can afford. I have spent my life driving second hand cars and now I have no guilts in driving a prestigious car. I am looking forward to my next prestigious car when one day my MY14 Overland becomes the grey nomadding pulling machine when I will no longer worry if it gets a scratch or two on it.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Well here is something different...
Just had the 10,000km Service done, no problems except for a leaking inner front drive boot, apparently it had a split in it and it is not covered under the Chrysler Jeep Warranty as they consider that something could have come off the road and damaged it. (so far never been off road).

I don't agree with this view as the inboard boot is reasonably well protected from the road, if you look at these drive boots they are made of some sort of semi hard plastic, not the usual softer rubber type.
The real shocker is that it is not available from Jeep as a spare part, therefore you have to purchase a complete Driveshaft Assy at $1500 +
My dealer has supplied me with an aftermarket boot costing $280 fitted.

What I am asking of our members is, have any of you experienced this problem with the drive shaft boots? also it may be worth checking your own vehicles and see if any of these boots are leaking (You will see a spray of grease around it).
My point being that if there is a problem, Chrysler Jeep would not be aware of it as it is not considered a Warranty item.
Otherwise it is simply just my bad luck...

PS: The photo is of the new aftermarket boot (top of photo).

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

"Exhaust Filter Nearing Full" message hit me again. I just drove out of office parking when I saw a message "Exhaust Regeneration in Process..........". I was approaching traffic light and had to press brake. As soon as I touch the brake pedal, regeneration message disappeared and now I have that deadly message " Exhaust Filter Nearing Full. Drive safely at highway speed to remedy" and the car is in limp mode. 4189 KM on the clock at the moment. Last time this happened to me when it had only 280 KM on the clock. Last time I was out of car for four days. Penrith dealer refused to look at the car saying that I needed to take it to the dealer that I bought it from. This time I am not going to contact Penrith. Even though Penrith is closest to me. My dealer is pacific highway Artarmon. I live in Blacktown, NSW and Artarmon is not very close. Not very happy. I don't think I will keep this car for very long. Will sell it soon and never ever a Jeep again.
