What are the legalities in this scenario, surely we have the right to go to the nearest dealer for mechanical repairs ?
I asked local dealers before I signed my contract (buying from another state) - the warranty is with Jeep Australia, not the dealer making the sale.

Any Jeep dealership can help you, and Jeep Aus is obliged to cover the cost if it's a warranty issue

Indeed. All dealers are obliged to carry out warranty work. They just don't want the hassle and the rates that Jeep reimburse them on labour.

For example - I don't know if there's a Jeep dealer in, say, Mt Isa. Lets say there is, and your Jeep needs warranty work/breaks down. Can they refuse?

My Dealer told me that all Jeep Dealers are obliged to carry out any Warranty work that may be required. I asked the question as we are intending to do the around Aust thing by Caravan.

Opened her up today and took it to 135/km. Open straight road - no one around but me. Never done that before in any vehicle.

Went beautifully - smooth as smooth. (Don't tell my husband).

You have a fair bit of pedal yet to go, I am amazed at this crd's power, it feels safe as well no floating or anything, just need to pick where you try

I felt she had a fair bit left in her Shertim but alas, I ran out of road and more importantly courage.

I'm not usually a 'speed-freak' but I just wanted to keep her going and the opportunity arose today. Very happy with her.

Yes, no camera's ever on this road. It's Menangle Road running from Picton Road through to Douglas Park. Quite an uneventful road, a bit dippy in places with a few pot-holes here and there but I know where they are.

Towards the end is a nice straight that leads up into the cutting and I happened to start at the very beginning of the straight. Normally that's not the case and you don't get the opportunity.

The posted speed limit for the straight is 100km - going up into the cutting is 65km and coming down the other side is 80km. I took the cutting quite comfortably at 100km and just cruised down to the 80km zone (fuel economy 2/100 )

It wasn't anything really - I never felt that she was pushed in anyway. It was more me that had never taken a vehicle to that speed before on an open road.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi all
Been on holiday, here is a bit of a summary.........
Loaded up the GC nearly up to the roof lining with the back seats laid down, boat loaded with tools and gear hooked up to the towbar, Adelaide to Port Melbourne on a single tank.
In Tasmania plenty of driving up & down from the Central Highlands to Hobart & Launceston, sometimes with 4 adults, sometimes with a 7x4 trailer for picking up building materials and furniture. The road is quite windy with 15 & 25 kmh hairpin corners climbing to an altitude of about 1100 mts.
Lots of dirt road work with the boat to various fishing locations.
Speedo had 1755 kms when we left and 7164kms when we got home = 5409kms for the trip. I had trip computer ďAĒ set for the overall trip and the trip average for fuel consumption showed as 10.90, which I am very happy with. Unfortunately I didnít keep all my fuel / kms notes, but the last 3 where, 578kms/56lts, 401/43, 743/81. From Latrobe (Tas) to Adelaide with outside tempís up to 45 deg and A/C on all the way, sitting on the speed limits on a single tank, trip computer showed a range of 100 kms remaining. The only time I had to feather the accelerator a bit on one the hills on the freeway approaching Adelaide. The temp gauge stayed pretty much in the normal range except on that hill where it climbed to about the ĺ mark.
The Q/L was very good if we had to reverse into the lake to launch the boat, being able raise the car gave a bit more wading depth and tipped the trailer a little bit more, it was also good for hitching & unhitching.
Didnít get to test the skid plates, which Iím not too upset about.
Reversing uphill along the gravel drive towards the shack I was getting a bit of wheel spin (didnít want to pot hole my drive), I found by pushing the button with the picture of the drunk driver on it
and disabling the traction control it was fine.
I was really impressed how quiet the car is on the bitumen and on the gravel/dirt roads, and virtually no dust found its way inside the car.
One thing that was a bit disappointing, the glove box kept partly opening on the right hand side only.
Iím glad to report the bulbar worked a treat, nothing was brave enough to jump out in front of the Jeep.
The reversing camera isnít as clear as the one on the Captiva, but it is still pretty good. The grid lines are useful for predicting where the car will travel, but I found it took a bit of getting too when reversing on to the trailer as the centre line marker confuses the view when getting close to the coupling. Once you get used to it, itís OK, those little dings can occur during that period of time of becoming familiar with it.
Love that heated steering wheel after fishing in the snow, might have suggest to ĎJeepí that heated foot pedals would be really nice too.
No regrets with 18Ē wheels for the off road work.
I also like the altitude, latitude & longitude info.
I guessing that once thereís 10-15,000 kms on the clock the fuel economy should improve a bit more.
Only having taken delivery the car a couple of weeks before the trip I was quite nervous about if it would behave after reading some of the other forum members experiences. Various different breakdowns hundreds of kmís from home, limp modes, lack of or slow responses from JEEP Aust and some dealers etc.
The car was dream ride right from the start, not a hint of trouble (touch wood) it even allowed the wife to drive, talk about tolerant.
Overall I think this is a pretty shit hot car.

What is the definition of "warranty work"? A normal service, ie 10,000, or 20,000K services should be considered warranty work because if you did not do them you would void your warranty. So surely warranty work is virtually all work unless you wanted them to attach an accessory or something which obviously would NOT be warranty work.
