If you got to 6 months, had driven 800m from the dealer to a pub which you still had not left, and had 99% oil life, you still need to change it to cover warranty.
Doesn't make alot of sense, if the vehicle is not driven, then why (apart from warranty sake) does the oil need changing (also given that there is no outside contamination), the oil can sit on the shelf for over 2 years before you purchase it.
I will be changing mine at regular intervals as per recommended.

As my brother who is a very qualified mechanic etc has always told me
Clean oil
Clean air
Clean fuel is all that is required for an engine to last forever theoretically.

He also said changing oil just for the sake of meeting a time clock is nothing more than revenue collection by dealers and nothing else.

Oil collects the remnant partially and entirely unburned fuel, plus the gasses which are not exhausted at shut down. I believe that low km, high age sump oil has been documented to contain more damaging substances than oils which have done a lot of work.

When warranty isn't a factor, I have my oil changed based on km, time, and the type of cycling the engine has been subject to.

Ciao,
Steve

Oil on the shelf is sealed. When in you engine it can absorb moisture and other containments hence the time period.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Having been a mechanic (20 years ago) I had changed a lot of oil. I speak from experience that after 6 months (8k km my average between services) the oil in my CRD is putrid and is due for a change.
I do many short trips and it does affect the oil quality. I only use Nulon Synthetic in my car.
I used to change the oil every 7,500km on my FPV's when their service interval was 15k km

Thanks Snuke for this info.

I have never looked at it at all over the last 7 months of ownership. (too many sub-menus).

Reading today says 74% Oil Life - last reset 6000+ odd kms ago - I'm rounding here (reset done at 10,000km service though) so another 3000kms or thereabouts (a bit less) until the next service (20,000km) where I'm sure they will change the oil and filter again.

Happy with the changing regardless of the EVIC notice.

I know most will not agree, but we are using Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30 per what the dealership uses.

Gforce - I also emailed Shell about 3-4 months ago with same question. My response was pretty much the same as the one that you received a few days ago except for the last warranty sentence that was in your reply. They've obviously added that in their standard reply in the last few months.

It hasn't changed our mind though with regards to using Helix Ultra.

The Overland is running brilliantly with no issues to report. No transmission issues, no PCM issues like the cruise control one that has been reported, no Uconnect issues (other than VR for Nav), no Regen issues... no nothing.

It does have a cleanliness issue though.

So when u press n HOLD ACC set+ button, it functions as intended (speed increase continuously) w/o any problem?

As soon as I do that, ACC switches off by itself n EVIC displays 'ACC and forward collision warning require service'.

Correct - it functions as intended and always has since delivery back in July '13. Our Overland is an April '13 build and has had the following updates to it since delivery:

- Climate Control updating the HVAC software (dealership applied)

- N58 Recall update applied (at 10,000km) service (dealership applied)

- Uconnect 13.39.51 applied by me (I realise I am two Uconnect updates behind but that is a deliberate decision on my part because I was not happy with the reported lag in the rear-camera being reported as an issue after the Uconnect update and with the second update being available, with no apparent gains, I have chosen to hold off applying the latest - so I still sit on 13.39.51 and all is good with the Uconnect).

As far as the Cruise Control goes, it gets a workout every two weeks or so on the M7 and M2.

It has never faulted - never switched itself off. Two weeks ago, we did the M7, M2 and then on up to the Central Coast. Perfect.

Tonight it is getting a workout again doing the M7 and M2 and beyond. The husband won't be back until after midnight but if there is an issue, you can be sure he will let me know about it. (I think he is waiting for it to faulter given the reports on this site but it hasn't thus far).

It is the most loved feature of this vehicle coupled with the BS Monitoring.

Lucky gal!

I tested ACC under 13.39 version, haven't tested yet since I upgraded to 13.51. Will test it again but don't have much faith. I knew that the issue was reported here previously, so what's the fix by dealer after all?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Lucky indeed or maybe not.

How many early builds have had the ACC issue? Is it something that has happened since, say late August builds when they brought in the Stop/Start functionality?

I don't know (?) - just throwing a thought around.
