Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Just had a quiet call with my dealer. There are over 280 vehicles on order with Jeep Australia and they are handling the distribution of early 2014 cars at national level rather than letting the states / dealers fight over stock. Hence the lack of E numbers at dealer level as Jeep Aus have not released those details.

He is hoping for as early a delivery as possible so he has some stock to sell. Apparently 2013 stock is low and with the end of our financial year looming with the usual annual push to achieve sales targets, they need stock.

Its going to be a long 3 months to end June / early July for us all.

If anyone from Jeep Australia is monitoring these threads, some info would be appreciated.

Hard to believe this is the case, a lot of us have ordered options which will not fall into line of what they are suggesting, unless of cause what we ordered as options is standard.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi All
New member from this morning. I have been following this forum for a week since discovering the site. Thanks to all for some refreshing insights - I thought I was alone trying to get some detail on new GC models.

I have intended buying my first Jeep - 2014 GC Limited - but, like most on these pages, getting no info. Getting a little disillusioned with Jeep Aust withholding detail. Should I start looking at alternatives again?

If vehicles are already being built and some shipped, the final model specs for Aust must be available (not according to dealer) or they couldn't have built them! Also. option packages for Aust should be finalised so that customers (me?) can up-spec to requirements without guesswork.

Can someone help with this?

I do know in my case a roof mounted DVD was going to cause a delay because the single pane sunroof that was required was not being built in the first runs. SO I canned that and went back to the double sunroof ( such a good idea in an Australian summer - not ! ) and the dealer will arrange for headrest mounted DVD to be installed here.

Maybe many of the options will be locally installed rather than factory.
All conjecture at this stage I guess.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

The double pane sunroof is not a hinderence to the Australia climate.
Firstly it is electric, so you can open it to what ever you like.
Secondly, not only is there a sliding glass panel, but also an internal liner panel
Therefore, with the liner panel closed, you will have the same summer protection than you do with a metal roof.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I would be extremely doubtful if the final Aussie Spec for the MY14 has not been finalised. If they have already built a shipload, then it is quite evident that all is well and truly locked in.
The comment about "releasing at a national level" has been the practice over the past few years.
The way ordering has worked in the past is that Jeep Aust order a certain amount of "popular models" for, floating stock, loan, publicity, demonstrators, etc. Dealers can only order specific cars if they have a buyer. i.e. They cannot order "dealer floorstock" cars. What many dealers have been doing is placing phantom orders, (pretend they have a customer) to obtain stock quicker. When the car comes in, they say that because of the delay the buyer backed out, or try to sell the car off the lot. Unfortunately, such ill gotten cars are usually not advertised because they do not want Melb to see what they have done, and you can sometimes find stock by phoning around dealers.
When dealers have a buyer, they place the order with Melb HQ, who try to match it to a car in their "stock". If the car has not yet been assembled, they can match the order to their stock order, and make some changes so that the vehicle now meets the requirements.
If the car has left the assembly line, and matches the criteria, the lucky buyer would get their car a lot sooner. All of the above examples have already a "E" number assigned. The only time that a "E" number is not yet assigned is when a buyer is ordering a car that cannot be matched to a pre existing Jeep Aust stock order, whether that car has been built or not.
Such "E" numbers should then be issued when the order is placed by Melb HQ. It is my understanding, that in the past, HQ only placed orders with the factory once a month.

All good and well, however, no reason why Jeep HQ in Melb can't tell the dealers what stock is arriving and when. i mean if i have ordered an Overland with XYZ but can get it sooner with XZY maybe id compromise and get that. Shouldn't we as customers be better informed or that asking too much?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi, new to this forum, new to forums in general. Hi to all. I see the forum has been busy. Place an order for a new MY14 JGC Limited CRD. From what I see I need to obtain the illusive "E" number to get a feel on when I will get my vehicle. Lets see how willing the dealer is to disclose this number.

You are absolutely correct.
However.... unlike Jeep Australia, you are thinking logically.

I think Jeep Australia need me on staff to get things going and get information out

Unlike the current thinking within Jeep Australia the more information going out he better even if its just to say "we have no information a this date" most people would prefe something rather than nothing
