I have searched this Aussie thread and the main JG thread.

I have an ICOM IC-440 UHF/CB radio to fit to the Big Red Fire Truck.

The Base Unit is small enough to fit under the passengers set. Will make a cradle for it to be able to be pulled out for any reason.

The handset has the speakers and all controls in it so not a problem for handset location.

Two questions.

* Power source. Does it come from the battery (under drivers seat) or from fuse box terminals?

* Aerial. No bullbar so mounted in tradional spot on left guard. Not much meat on that guard to mount. Hope no airbags or other critical appliances in that region.

Any suggestions for the above 2 questions appreciated.

One of my first jobs 2 years ago was to fit a new Uniden into our CRD.
Power supply comes via a fuse from the cold side of my Piranha battery isolator, down beside the main battery. I didn't need to have the UHF "on" all the time. Now when the set is switched on - its "on" when the engine is running and "off" when not.
The box went under the passenger seat exactly into a bracket that was already there. I have no idea what the purpose of the bracket was (we have QL), but it did the job.
The handset is mounted beside the glove box adjacent to the console just below the trim mold - the bracket held by double sided sticky. Can easily be reached by driver and its out of the passengers way too.
After many many years of looking at the back of UHF, phone and HF antennas on a number of bull bars - this time I went for a stubby flex UHF aerial mounted on the roof rail passenger side rear. First I made a bracket to fit the rail, but have subsequently bit the bullet and drilled a hole in the tail end plastic trim and mounted the base through the trim. The cable goes about 150mm along the roof beside the rail trim (siliconed down), then runs behind the rear door at the top, through an existing grommet high up in the back LH corner, then through and under trim to the passenger seat.
The only time I fit the antenna to the base is when going away - takes 30 seconds, although it could stay there as its flexible anyway.
Works fine except it is an 80 channel and the volume of transmit to a 40 channel is low. I just yell to the truckies.
The whole installation is hardly noticeable. Lots of ways to skin this cat.
Good luck
John

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Did anyone read the letters page in the carguide section of the Sunday Times (WA)? I presume it is the same section in the other State's Murdoch weekend papers.

Anyway there were two letters from 2012 JGC owners seeking advice on their noisy rear shockers, including one who said Jeep replaced his shocks three times and won't do anyore. The ed ran it past Jeeps spokesperson who said these are isolated instances and that they will continue to assess and resolve individual complaints - so the ed advised readers who have this issue to take the response printed in the paper to the dealer.

The thing that gets me, is that this issue has been around since the WK series was introduced in 2011, and continues to be an issue with the 2014 model here and in the USA - where there are many complaints. Surely they could have sorted this one out in the three years with the shock manufacturer (or getting someone else to supply the shocks), especially given what it must be costing Jeep to replace so many of them over several years. My dealer is fitting new shocks to my Jeep in a few weeks time but I suspect the noise will return.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

From what I've read the noise issue has moved from the shocks to the mounts.

Some have resolved the noise issue by packing the mounts with a tonne of grease (not sure if it resolved it over the longer term though), but the consensus is that it is the self-leveling mechanism within the shocks.

On the one hand, given for most people the issue returns a few months after new shocks are fitted seems to indicate it could be something other than the shocks, the fact that the issue goes away for a while with the new shocks would suggest it is not the mounts. I checked some of the Mercedes forums where one of their SUVs has the same underpinnings as the WK series Jeep and couldn't find any complaints about the shocks - not sure if they use the same Mexican brand shocks though. Either way, Jeep has had three years to fix it.

They should pack the mounts with Karla Leach!

Me? Ahhh... no. Not without legal stoush anyway.

Cheers,

And not without having to wait another 6 months for it to be built!

[QUOTE="chooke;998034"] I wonder why that wouldn't surprise me[/

I have a 2014 Overland with QL, and have severe suspension clunking in OR1 and worse in OR2. I've been looking on various threads, but can't figure out if the problem is self levelling suspension, or QL or both (well, I guess I know it's QL!). But most of the comments seem to centre on the shock as the cause, but I assume SLS and QL have different shocks.
My dealer says it's the shocks and there is no fix available "as yet".
Can someone tell me if the issue is limited to one suspension type? If it's anything other than QL, then I guess I have a different problem thanks, Russell

I understood that the shocker noise issue doesn't exist on Overland's or JGCs fitted with QL, but stand to be corrected. If so, I suggest your issue is different to the most common one.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Yep, this known problem is not applicable to quadra-lift. The self leveling shocks on the standard steel spring suspension are the issue, and now they are pointing to mounts.

OR1 and OR2 does clunk around a bit from what I have read. The suspension is maxed out in OR2, there won't be much travel when you hit a bump, so you will get a clunking noise. I think it is pretty normal.....
