Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi
I ve done my Laredo crd 10k. So far I need to top up engine oil about 2L before oil change. Is that normal or is my engine consuming too much?

Have you found any performance decrease with the extra weight on the car?

That does appear excessive, but it is difficult to know without information regarding the type of driving you did over the 10k. I used about 200ml during my first 10k, but I did not do any towing or any excessively harsh driving.

I've done 10,000k and haven't used any oil. Towed the boat from Adelaide to Tas, plenty of steep roads, some 4x4 stuff and back to Adelaide, air cond on all the way.

I'm thinking about Plastiwrapping an ARB bullbar. Does anyone know of a Sydney/newcastle area company that would do this?

Plasti dipping or Vinyl wrapping? They’re two very different things.
You could also look at hydro dipping, this lot have a Newcastle agent - HYDRO CONCEPTS AUSTALIA

What are you trying to achieve?

I mean vinyl wrap. I guess it's the same as the clear wrap Webber had put on his Jeep when he first got it. My objective is to have a black bar, which is not the rapidly fading powder coat that ARB applies. So I'd have it wrapped in either black or clear - assuming that can be done with all the tight corners on a bullbar. Since Webber had it done to protect from paint chips, my though is that it would be better than having it painted. I have no idea of the cost though - the paint is about $400.
I'd appreciate any opinions though.

I have just ordered the ARB, with colour matching my black GC. If I remember right it was $240 extra. Have not seen what it looks like but it has to look better than the powder coat. I would like to hear views from anyone who has already got the colour matched ARB, especially black.

That's interesting. They told me the colour matching was more expensive because the deep cherry red is a pearl coat. But, as far as I can tell, so is the black - getting your black on my bar is a good option if the wrapping isn't practical, or too expensive.

Hi It4vette,

You could try Altapac at Kotara in Newcastle. They did a clear coating on my mates Trike to stop stone chips. They may also do what you are after.

Cheers Alleyoop.

I'd be checking for a leak and hope it is that simple, not that any engine leak is good. I think that is excessive.

It'd be hard going to lose two litres of oil externally and not realise prior to pulling the dipstick... the mess would be unbelievable.

I hate to reaffirm what's bad news...

Cheers,
Steve
