Built in Germany, and Audi is by far the leader in diesel technology.
Fundamental difference will be the ECU tune and how the diesel is injected into the combustion chamber.
You can get that sort of power and economy out of your Jeep, its just that Jeep had to leave itself some tuning room for the updated MY15 and MY16 models.

Wish that new JGC can push fuel consumption below 7L, not a difficult task.

Probably less driveline losses, lower drag coefficient and a bunch of other things external to the engine's efficiency in there too.

Cheers,
Steve

Cheers

Had a choice, Chrysler Jeep don't supply the boots as a spare part so a complete drive shaft is the only fix to replace the boots, cost around $1500. Other option was an aftermarket fix by replacing the boot by a drive shaft specialist for $270. ( The dealer did help out though by paying 1/2).
I think you can guess which option I chose. What made me mad though was that I noticed grease on the lower suspension arm not long after getting the vehicle home, just thought at the time it was some left over from the factory assembly, so at the end of the day it's my fault for not reporting it, now I am beginning to think that this was a factory fault after all.

i was in at the dealers this morning and on the showroom floor was the new Cherokee, looks quite nice. He told me each dealer one as a 'sample'. (I think someboby might be getting interested now).

I havent checked back thru the thread yet, but I think there was talk about about a high pitched whistle at about 90km +. I can't hear it (partly deaf) but 2 friends, one in the front seat & one in the back seat can both hear it quite easily but can't really pin point where its coming from. (I'm surprised my wife hasn't said anything, she hears every thing else)

I was one who had a whistle at highway speeds. It only occurred with a trailing throttle. Slightest touch on the pedal and it went away. Told the dealer about it and he said he'd check the turbo hoses. However it went away before the first service, and I forgot to mention it. A couple of weeks ago someone else posted a similar issue. Mine was not loud enough for anyone other than someone as picky as me to hear it.

Thanks for the reply.
My whistle is high pitched and is constant from about 90-110 kph.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I'm taking GC to snowy mountain in July. Is Jeep 'cold' proof? I know that engine coolant is anti-freeze, but not so sure about diesel fuel. Do I need snow chain as I don't intend to drive in deep snow? A friend took Prado to snowy mountain and fuel line was frozen caused quite a damage and repair bill.

Any suggestion is more than welcome. Thanks

Have a look at Exploroz site, same questions were asked. Best answer was; "Move to WA, no snow there"

Thanks mate. Looks like Alpine diesel fuel is the answer. The critical question is whether Alpine diesel is ultra low sulfur diesel fuel as I checked the user manual as below:

Fuel Operating Range
NOTE: Use “Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuels” ONLY.

Climatized Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel is a blend of Number 2 Ultra Low Sulfur and Number 1 Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuels which reduces the temperature at which wax crystals form in fuel.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

These cars work in pretty cold conditions in the states, so I wouldn't expect any problems. As you already worked out, just need to fill up with alpine diesel when you get up there. Chains aren't required for 4WDs.
