Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Took delivery of my black 14 GC Diesel laredo yesterday!

Very nice car, love the torque of the engine, has some serious poke when you put the boot in. Love how quiet it is in the cabin, I was never a fan of the old diesel sound but am quite liking the engine in this model.

Love the features that comes with the car, key fob, push button start, 8 speed auto etc.

Meant to pick it up on tuesday but a mistake by the dealer saw them get ready the wrong vehicle, however they were quite accomodating and let me take home a 14 srt8 for the night while they sorted out my car and then delivered it to my work the next day. Happy with the service I received from them and it was nice to give the srt8 a spin! But omg the fuel consumption on the thing!

Already dreaming about how to spend money on the GC Maybe some black 20s. First off road outing already booked for june!

They list 3 roads where you might want to fit chains. I haven';t driven these roads for a long time, but of the many trips I've done to the snow in NZ and Vic, I've never needed them. The only place I probably did need them is in the car park.

Congrats, I just picked up my CRD LTD last week. I'm smiling a lot, particularly coming from the big, slow Land Cruiser.....

This is actually incorrect, some years ago there was a proposal to make 4wds carry chains, but in the discussion paper the data showed that the majority of accidents involve 2wds:

Selwyn Snowfields - Your Winter Playground

And as they pointed out at the time, the need to fit chains is limited to a few days per season on these roads.

How about we all rendezvous IN Kosciuszko National Park. Imagine convoy of JGC in snow, better than 'I bought a jeep'.

Certainly my GC has made people turn their heads on a number of occasions, maybe due to its shinny colour, DCR.

One can afford GC, sure one can afford park entry fee. Maybe Jeep AUS would pay for it if the convoy attracts the media attention. LOL.

You have to carry chains in Victoria regardless of what you are driving. Mind you I haven't had to fit them for ages.

Yep, I hire them on the way up to falls, and drop them off on the way down. Never needed them.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Last time I went to the snow (5 years ago), they checked I had chains on my AWD car.
The Ranger was checking all vehicles, regardless of 4x4,awd, etc.
He did not check if they fitted, as my car had 19" wheels and the chains were for a 15" wheel.
May pay to check the rules before heading down there without chains, as they will stop you and check.
