Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Just had my 10,000km service done at 11,381km. One open recall for brake booster, Jeep Australia do not have the required parts. I was told that because we live in a warm climate the booster won't rust. Its only for where the temperatures are freezing that moisture will affect it. Another BS from Jeep. But the VIN is affected by the recall and will be fixed as parts become available.

Supplied my own oil, I use Mobil ESP formula 5W30, bought from east coast lubes. Bought online for $113 plus $20 shipping for 8litres. Meets Chrysler MS specs.

total servicing cost $438

$68 each for oil and air filter plus labor and gst.

Jeep Australia's favourite word "Its NORMAL".

Me to the service department:

Me: My JGC has a brake squeal, I even made a recording.

Service department: Its normal.

Me: Power steering fluid is low.

SD: Its normal, they consume a bit of oil.

"There is a little engine in the power steering system consumes oil :sarcasm intended."

Me: Suspension noise transmits through the chassis. Clunk , rattle.

SD: Its normal.

Me: My Uconnect plays up.

SD: We are not big fans of Voice Recognition.

Me: My steering has a shimmy at 100-110km/h

SD: Its normal because electric power steering. (B***S***T)

ME: Car pulls to the left.

SD: it's normal because you have 20" wheels.

Took the jeep to the local Bridgestone select, wheel was out of alignment. That is it was not aligned to Australian roads. They found castor, camber and toe were out by 5degrees. No wonder I had to hold the steering wheel to the right by 5degrees to keep it straight on the road. I no longer have a pull to the left thanks to the guys at Bridgestone. Oh and wheel balance done by Bridgestone, no more shimmy. I was told by Bridgestone to stay away from Kumhos.

I bought a jeep.

I will be selling a jeep.

Anybody wants to buy my jeep PM me.

Regards
Ameet.

No, that is actually correct. The concern is for freezing climates that the moisture freezes and affects the brakes.

With 639,000 vehicles affected, parts will take time. I believe someone said approx August.

Firstly, no one here will ever say Jeep Aus aren't useless, however, don't confuse your dealer for Jeep Aus. Just because your dealers service manager or the actual mechanic is useless, doesn't mean it's Jeep Aus's view.
It is a pet peeve of mine seeing people having a go at Jeep Aus because of a dealers actions as though the dealer acts as part of Jeep Aus. The Jeep Aus FB os full of people cracking it at Jeep because of a dick head dealer. I am sure they sell other brands there too, they are an independent dealer and have their own management structure. Jeep Aus are useless enough, they don't the actions of dealers to be counted as their own as well.

Now they're just lying to you. You know this, you have complained about your noisy shocks already. They know of the issue, Chrysler know of the issue, maybe one day they will release the fix to the shock mounts.

If your dealer was any dumber, they would be finger painting their answers to you. There is a TSB for the pulling to left issue. See here - http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_0200414.pdf

Snuke,

It may appear that I am having a go at JA, but the chain of communication must filter down from somewhere. The dealer service centre cannot make all the statements on their own. Or could they?

My dealer did the TSB for the pull to the left they could not fix it. So, I went to an independent wheel alignment place:tick sorted my vehicle no longer pulls.

Whether the brake booster recall has anything to do with climate or not any brake issue is a safety concern in my book whether it is freezing here in Australia or not. One thing I am not comfortable with is recall on brakes. Not saying my brakes will fail but there is an uncertainty surrounding this issue. You might notice i started off with JA, then I am blaming the service department (SD) not JA for the answers they gave me. So yes bad choice of words on my part.

Should I have chosen my words better, maybe or maybe not. At certain level every one in the chain is somehow responsible , in my opinion it starts from the top and filters down. Or maybe i am just disgruntled with the list of issues I had with my jeep.

Regards.

I feel your frustration, and it certainly does not help when you apparently had to deal with the dumbest service advisor, possibly in the world. Unfortunately, some of these idiots think they are gods once they change their pristine overalls and put on a labcoat and jeans, and get to drink coffee out of mug instead of a cardboard cup.
I mostly agree with what SNUKE has commented on, but also agree with your comment that "it starts at the top"
Unfortunately Jeep Australia appears to have taken a stance that once a car is sold, their responsibility ends. Many a dealer has told me about their frustration in dealing with JA. They find it difficult to obtain answers, parts, and often are coerced into delivering their PR BS.
In regard to the Brake Issue, it is unlikely that we will be effected in Australia. Not because we live in a climate that does not allow rust, as I am sure everyone has seen some form of rust. The response I would have expected by a service advisor is. "We have inspected the component, and it shows none of the elements of rust formations". I doubt if Jeep have an exemption for owners in States such as California or Florida, which have similar climates to some areas of Australia. What about owners who live in our colder and wetter regions? Rust does prevail in the tropics you know.
My 2012 GC has now close to 30,000klms. The brakes do not squeek, the steering does not pull to one side and I have 20" wheels, the steering fluid has not decreased, the suspension does not rattle. Is my car not normal?
As for their comment on "not a fan of voice recognition". Well that is hardly surprising coming from an idiot, who has probably spent too much time sleeping under a car than working under the bonnet. Who cares what he likes and does not? Voice Recognition is supposed to work!
I personally would be contacting the Dealer Principal, and comment on your experience, as well as requesting re-imbursement for the wheel alignment, which is covered under the TSB release for the steering issue.

Hi Ameet, I too had a knocking noise, but only when I would take off from stand still. I went to the local Jeep Dealer, booked it in for a road test with their workshop foreman. The noise was due to a loosened engine mount bolt. Once tightened knocking noise disappeared and so did a vibrating/whining noise when the transmission would downshift.
Does you noise occur all the time, or only when you perform a certain action?

Please tell me where you did your service, that Service Manager was so full of crap its hilarious! Nothing worse than being fobbed off by someone who couldn't give a shit....

I wouldn't worry about the brake booster recall, its corrosion that occurs over time, and only where the water freezes, then you MAY end up with brake firmness. Not something that is going to cause an accident tomorrow, or ever. Personally I'm happy Jeep actually perform recalls, rather than avoiding them at all costs like some manufacturers do.

And if the Jeep service department can't fix your steering but the local tyre place can, seems to be more reason to find a new service department. Please name them.

Get your stop watch out.
Stand next to your car.
Start the clock.
Walk around the car, kick each tyre.
Stop the clock.
You just did more than most dealers would do with 1,000km check unless you gave them specific problems to look at, so halve that time and you’re close.

When discussing cars in general, and someone tells me a mechanic told them such and such brand/model is crap, I think of the people you’re describing.

We have just clocked up close to 3000klm since picking it up last Tuesday and I am booking it in for the 3000klm check.
I didn't know there was a 1000klm check though?
