Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Not unusual for dealers to have older firmware, especially when a new one has just been released. The normal old process most go through is to wait until Jeep Aus supply them with physical discs to use for installs.
So the firmware hits gold (ready to publish) goes up on website to be downloaded by those aware of it.
Physical discs are created and sent to dealers and distributors. So yes, it was and may still be, the case that Jeep Aus wait until they receive discs sent over on the slow boat.

Have a look at update 13.43.7.
It got published 11th December 2013. Service bulletin goes out 13th December.
Bulletin has this as PARTS REQUIRED:

So a dealer sees the bulletin, sees there are parts required for it, they will wait for those parts to be available. So that is a week later for our RJ4 units, then at least 6 weeks to get here. So very easy to see why you can get something before the dealer. A dealer should be covering their ass and wait for official parts to arrive instead of downloading from Uconnect site and possibly screwing up the process with a corrupted USB stick that was used for donkey porn.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Can understand how there maybe a delay, but someone should be aware of what the latest is and be able to tell you - it possibly could be version x has just been released by the manufacture but we are still waiting to be issued this and we are using version x

My dealer, well should I say the dealer that sold me the car state that the software must be completely up-to-date because they plug the car into the computer and the computer is linked to Jeep and it automatically up dates everything!
No mention of putting the correct disk in and the right time

Question Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi,

I've just purchased a GC Summit 2014 and have been trying to track down the U-Connect options for Australia, and missing features compared to the US model.

I found a thread in this forum that lane change warning, universal garage door opener, wifi hotspot and a few other features are missing.

Is that still the case even though the model I've bought has only just rolled off the assembly line?

They haven't released a patch in the U-Connect software or anything by popular demand from Jeep customers here in Australia to enable some missing features in the International model?

Nothing by Jeep is done by popular demand. If that was the case they would actually use their spare parts warehouse for spare parts.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

MY14 Laredo Camera;

I had feedback from a motoring writer who I submitted the crap camera complaint to.

He advised me that he had a response from Jeep Aust to the effect;

"We are currently investigating the claims outlined in the petition.
It is our policy to not conduct negotiations or discussions with our customers in a public forum.
If customers have any concerns regarding their vehicle, we encourage them to contact their local dealer."

Its like a dog chasing its tail this story is.
They say we dont want to know about it, go and see the dealer.
The dealer then says, sorry but we cant do anything because Jeep Australia dont want to know about it.

Well, they soon will. One dissatisfied MY14 Laredo customer is ready to go to the NSW Office of Fair Trading just as I am meeting offcially with the dealer tomorrow. If not a satisfactory outcome then I will organise a meeting in at Jeep Australia Head office here in Port Melbourne.
No joy there and in goes my already prepared complaint to the Vic Consumer Affairs.

Thanks for the support people.

Petition still going if newcomers need to sign.

You get Blind Spot Monitoring, apart from that the others aren't "missing", they were never part of the Aus spec.
There are hardware differences between Nth America and export models. Ours like all export markets don't get the Sierra wireless hardware. We apparently don't have the same standard for Garage Doors, or at least not as widely adapted.

Hi Snuke,

Thanks for replying, I understand that might be the case for the rest of the world for the international model, but here in Australia... well not sure if you're aware of this but Sierra wireless products are used extensively in Telstra's network, in fact where I work all the 3G modems (some 1200 or so) that we use for remote access into our network are branded telstra, but it's sierra wireless hardware inside.

So not sure what the purpose was of them ripping that out for the Australian market. I'm sure the wifi hotspot, could definitely have worked without any changes apart from loading a different profile to support Telstra at the very least, and they could have come up with a plan similar to what they offer in the US. For 20 bucks a month which is what we pay for a 1GB data plan I probably would have paid that myself to make use of the wifi hotspot, remote start\lock features (which if they've ripped all that hardware out won't be working either).

I think it's a bit of a let down actually. To be able to say "hey guys look no hands" and start the car remotely would have been a sexy feature, warming and cooling the car before I get into it, being the main point of course :P

The universal garage opener - well I assume because they've ripped the sierra stuff out that'd be why that doesn't work either - because lets face it learning a signal from a remote isn't that hard. Anyways not a show stopper either but a bit of a disappointment.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I very familiar with SW and have had their cards before. No idea why is was removed, and I have put no thought into it as it won't change anything, and frankly, it is nothing a huge amount of people can't do with their own devices already. In the US, they get charged extra for tethering from their phones, we don't so it can make more sense for US owners.

As for garage door, see this thread - Added remote garage door button to centre console

I'm still not convinced that it is the top mount rather than the shocks. Mine were replaced a couple months ago and the SLS knock has disappeared. I know that the knock may return sometime in the future but why does replacing the shocks fix the problem for some time? And why doesn't it afflict all GC's with self levelling suspension?

I would have thought that if it was the top mounts, replacing the shocks would not solve the issue, even if only temporary. The other thing is that this fault has been around with the GC for over three years now. Why would it take so long for Jeep to rectify the fault in the time that most manufacturers could design a totally new car from ground up? I reckon it is the self levelling shocks that is the issue but unfortunately there are no after market replacements to test that theory.

As for now, if the LLS knock returns, I will insist on replacement shockers (and so should everyone else) until Jeep fixes the underlying problem whatever it is.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Just signed the petition. I don't own a laredo though am looking to buy a limited this year. Still think it's an important message to get across to Jeep Australia.

Good luck!
