Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Yeah I'm considering that option Snuke as we're getting paid $2k cash... I thought I might have to get the parts through them. I'm waiting for the car to surface at the auctions so I can track it to the "dismantlers". Others might like to know where to find it too?

So far, no sign. I think that means they are holding it pending a sh!tfight with the other party, who are uninsured. Not that I can get any answers regarding the investigation...

Another point I meant to raise in my previous post was to consider an accident cam. I'll have two, thank you!

Cheers,
Steve

When the new version of the Blackvue DR550GW-2CH arrives next month (the 650) I am going to get it fitted. 2 channel, so front and rear. Pricey but the best system out there and very clean once installed.

Yes! One for his, another for hers.

Another FYI... in WA your accident compensation is adjusted to reflect your percentage "at fault".

Nasty.

Interesting re accessories. I raised the accessories with NRMA who advised that they don't need to know lists of accessories, but I need to ensure that the value I insured includes those accessories.

Did your insurer give you an option of taking cash payout instead of car replacement?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

That's a common approach too MM. Nothing wrong with either in my opinion, though upping the value might offer a bit of creative flexibility in what was actually there. Me, I just want what's right... I'm not into creative accounting or anything like that. Unfortunately I forgot to list stuff, but I didn't get punished too bad.

The option of a cash payment / alternative car was tabled by the assessor. We talked amicably about the range of values you could argue that the Cheap had, which I could see would affect a cash out. I was thinking in the background... "if this value is too high it could also result in the car not being written off". As I haven't seen anything that appealed more, I stated that I simply wanted what I had. So the assessor put down $67k based on a red/beige Overland CRD advertised on CarSales in Perth which had about the same kays. It was, however, the only car that cheap... so I only accepted as I could see it suiting me.

Cheers,
Steve

If DVG had processed the car by the book, it would have ended up being a four week wait to replace the written off car. My partner's staff member had a "new for old" in two weeks via SGIO... without grief. Anyway...

Lessons:
- Keep up with your modifications and list all accessories. We hadn't listed a few things such as the skid plates, towbar and mudflaps. These easily sucked up the $2k unlisted accessories provisions, which I guess we were very lucky to have.
- Hire car was optioned out because we had three cars upon insuring the Jeep, but then I sold one. Based on the processing of our claim by Allianz, two weeks hire would have been quite insufficient. I can only imagine how long you'd need a hire car for if a significant repair was required given Jeep's spare parts situation. You'd probably be best off buying a heap to run around in.
- When it seems like you're being dealt one last sh!t sandwich... keep cool. You never know when someone is going to step up and do you a massive favour at the last minute.

Oh, aside from the EcoDiesel badge on the tailgate, the new car almost feels different to the last. I'm sure the transmission is smoother... I hope it doesn't learn any bad behavior. The finish is better in most places, especially where stones and pleb's doors left their mark on the last one. However there's no way any of these minor observations are worth the impact... emotionally or physically... of the accident. Plus I still have to do another towbar installation, and bang on some skid plates.

It ain't over yet!

Ciao,
Steve
Good to see you finally have a Jeep back

Didn't Alliance have new car replacement policy within e.g. 2 years? In terms of payout, I would think it's the amount you insured, not market value.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

My Allianz policy has 24 months new for old. The only other insurance that comes close is AAMI's Platinum policy.
As for Crash Cams, I run a front and rear camera. The Front is the new Blackvue GR500DW-HD. Has Wifi and is very nice. It will leave little doubt if anything happens and you can also get a great compilation of videos from stupid drivers that we all see every day on the road.

Just had a mopar towbar fitted by the guys at DVG Maddington yesterday. Tony was able to get it done for me for $1000.

GIOs Platinum policy is lifetime new for old replacement. It will cost me $127 per year to go from Woolies to GIO insurance, I plan to do this just before the car is 12 months old (requirement to get lifetime).

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Thanks Mr Boxhead... it's been a battle, but driving home in my fresh JGC all became well in the world.

Yes MM, Allianz replaced the vehicle. However the payout terms are different... market value UP TO the sum insured.

Enforcer I looked at the single head Blackvue, but was thinking we'd cave in and get the front/rear units. Running a different cam facing backwards did cross my mind and I should possibly give it more thought. Obviously it's working for you...

Thanks Paul. Unfortunately I have to do the wiring myself... I just can't bear other's quality of work. That's a good price though.

I'll be looking into GIO thanks Snuke, and I'm fascinated by lifetime new for old. I feel very fortunate that the car was written off and that we had new for old. I think it might have been a different story with a 3 year old car... and I've heard enough regarding parts waiting times to be well concerned.

Thanks all,
Steve
