Put the Tow Baa on Baa Baaa this morning. :) Wasn't too hard, although I knew it wasn't going to be a breeze when it was already 32deg at 7:45 am. Instructions where pretty good although in "step 3" it referred to removing "2x plastic fittings" On the MY14 these are metal bolts that screw in to the impact beam. The tow bar has holes for the bolts but are not threaded so I had to get my own nuts, bolts and washers. They also provide a few plastic pop rivets, however you need a special tool to fit them, can't find the tool in town so I bought alternative plastic clips from SuperCheap. My only other thought on the install is that the wheel arch flares have 3 mount points that use plastic clips, these mount points are very flimsy and are very easy to break. Had to use a bit of araldite on a couple of them. Total time to put the bar on was about 3 hours, by the time I finished it was almost noon and 40deg so the wiring harness can wait until another day..

SNUKE the rest of the images of the bar are here:

Firstly, I am not a black person but I have to admit your car looks smart. Black needs a little extra chrome and the side steps and the silver shiny rims do the job. I reckon you should consider those chrome headlight surrounds previous discussed. I reckon they would definetely work on the black. On white I am not too sure.
Now, you are too clever for me. No way would I pull my car apart like you have to facilitate the fitting of a tow bar. I had no idea one had to go to that extent. I'd never know how to put it all back again. I'd almost certainly leave off a screw or something.
BAABAAA is obviously in good hands....very sparkly too for your location.

auscop, just one more thing, when you pulled the back off your car was it full of the red "bulldust"? or was it as clean as the photo shows?
Hey Webber, sadly there was no red bulldust, with the wifer studying full time we are yet to get away on a good camping trip... And we don't head out in anything over 35deg.. :). Yea yea call me soft... :) Baa Baaa was clean as she had just got back from the Baa Baaa Bath. :)

When I was under there yesterday it didn't look too difficult, but like the side steps I fitted, just pain in the ass getting under instead of having the ease of the car up on a hoist.
The wiring however, I haven't played with electrics in so long I wouldn't dare touch.

It looks the same as far as I can tell.
Did you get a MY14 wiring loom at least?

SNUKE, Nope looks like I got the old wire harness.. If the only difference is the reversing sensors, then I am not too worried as we almost never tow, only time we do is when go camping and take our quad bike..

Use to be a sparky, so electrics don't bother me to much.. :)

I tested the cruise control today coming down a steep hill.
At 60kmh, it maintained it, raised only a couple before dropping from 6th to 3rd gear by itself to maintain the set 62kmh.

It is possible I turned the cruise off instead of setting it at 82kmh due to the stupid button layout, but the car ran up to 100kmh, before I put on the brakes.
It was only 2 mins later when I know I turned it off that I realised I may have done it earlier.
I find the button lay out silly. On/Off should be where cancel is and vice versa, with the set and reduce buttons being more prominent rather than the centre button, ie the two buttons most likely to be used.

Hi Snuke, I find myself adjusting the gearing when the computer decides to hold the speed back via the gears, especially when it goes over 3000 rpm. The computer then adds more brakes to maintain the speed which I feel is better for the engine. After the speed settles, I then reset the gear selection back to automatic.

I was hoping the Transmission TSB (NUMBER: 21-011-13 GROUP: Transmission and Transfer Case DATE: November 09, 2013 - Serial 8) would fix this, but I reckon the dealership thought that the N58 recall would fix this. I'll have to get this checked again on the next service. Has anyone had this TSB applied and found an improvement in gear selection.

I had all that done... except, not sure about above the windscreen. He also made cups behind each of the door handles to protect from finger nails and wrapped strips around the edge of the doors to give some protection there. Oh and he also did the door sills.

I had it done by Paul at cleararmour.com.au. He asked me not to publish the price because it was his first my14 and under-estimated the complexity. Actually I think he said it was about the hardest he had done. All those good looking curves:) also the thin strips of paint on the grill area. He did love the car though. He was considering a gc but went with a Prado.

Can anyone help me with a phone number. Trying to locate Jeep Australia's head office number to contact them re Promotions. Harder to locate than pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Cheers in advance.
PM'd you PAA with Jeep contacts, phone numbers and address.

Good luck with that, you'll need it.!!

Got the dreaded DPF "warning" tonight as well as a flashing electric throttle control warning and limp mode. Done about 1600km.

Jeep Assist arranged a tow truck and now I don't have a car. Hopefully it will be fixed first thing tomorrow. Not a good start to Christmas.

I hope the dealer looking after the repair does the righty and winds up the wick to get it sorted out for you on the day. At the first sign of delays or bullshit, hit the Jeep 1800 and make sure that they're 100% across the situation.

There's no reason it can't be done in a day.

Best of success with it,
Steve

In the absence of any scientific proof (anecdotes don't count IMO), I'd put electronic rust protection in the same category as Brock's energy polariser and Hiclones. Besides, the auto industry are pretty good at anti-corrosion techniques at the manufacture phase.

My daughter drives a 1998 Toyota, full of stone chips. These have had no more than the slightest discolouration from minor surface rust, and some of these chips are 10 years old!

Let me say I have enjoyed being on this site. Had many a discussion on this site, via private message and private emails with persons like "The Captain' and "Robo_70" who have left this site now for various reasons. I remember Captain Slobodan wanting us all to get together etc. Realistically, that rarely happens. People come and go on this site and one day I too will add to those statistics. I note many new names listed on the site now and remember the excitement prior to the launch of this car. The excitement on waiting your turn to get on the Wharf camera's for a sneak preview. When my turn came I had no idea how to use the camera and headed straight off into the bushes and my time was up before I regained control of the camera. It's been a good year overall. Probably next year many names on this site will find their way onto the MY15 forum. I have enjoyed the trip and it has been a pleasure reading everyones comments. Once again, Merry Christmas and remember to keep your jeep close to the family barbeque or dining table so you can keep making that fleeting glance over your shoulder at her beauty.

Merry Christmas to you and your family as well Webber. And you're so right - this site is brilliant (Thanks to Scott and everyone else involved). No MY15/16 for us - We'll probably wait out the warranty and then some, and then take a look at maybe '17/18.

I will be joining in the Cherokee threads though come June. (hopefully ;) )

Still, 6 months in now and 14000kms on the clock and she's still running perfect. An absolute joy to drive.

Am going out now to clean her. We are hosting a big thing tomorrow including a few folk that we haven't seen in quite some time (yes - I'm all sorted and ready to go :D) and I cannot let her be seen for the first time, in the state she is currently in. (Can't really see well out of the rear window at the moment it is so covered in dust and dirt and that would be one of the cleaner parts ).

So, once again all the very best, have a great Christmas and New Year. :)

Merry Xmas and a safe New Years to all. My car will spend Xmas and New Years at the workshop but luckily I'm not at home (so couldn't drive anyway) and in Fiji for Xmas. Hopefully fixed when I'm back early in the new year so I can take it on a long drive towing the boat for next leg of my holidays

Webber, if you are still in touch with Bruno, i hope things are better as I know it turned to shit for him a while back.

Everyone have a safe time on the roads with all the crazies out there.

I have sent an email off to Bruno (Slobadan, The Captain, Capt Slobadan) wishing him Merry Christmas and mentioned that you were asking about him. A lovely guy. I do hope we can get him in a Jeep one day. Will let you know if I get a response.

That makes PERFECT sense Alan.

On another oddity, my cruise control turns off as soon as I turn it on very frequently.
Anyone else have this issue?

Hey Snuke, happens to mine also. Usually need to press the cruise control on button a few times for it to stay in standby mode. Mentioned it to the service department when getting some waaranty work done and they could duplicate it but couldn't fix it, so a star case has been opened and good thing is that Jeep knows of the issue and is working toward a fix.

The filter cleansing is not only distance related, but also driving style and fuel type etc...
It is a good idea to give it a good run from time to time to get the heat up in the exhaust.

It is extremely stupid that the warning comes on too late. I suggest you ask the dealer to file an official complaint or whatever to see that this warning procedure is like the US and before limp mode.

When Mazda released diesel on their less commercial/4WD cars they had and still have a lot of problems.

Got the car back this morning OK.

The dealer seems to think that the PDF warning and limp mode is normal and not a fault.

Seems odd that some people seem to get an actual warning.

Might have to take it up with Jeep Autralia directly.

Merry Christmas everyone - isnt it great being at work on christmas and boxing day. Jeep goes in for a service early in the new year with around 7500km on it by then and will get the n58 update done at the same time. No major dramas and still love the thing.

One thing to mention - if you guys do any offroading in the jeep and are in closed in tracks with brush either side, when you fold in your electric mirrors with the button, they will re-open over 16km/h i think it is. Quite painful as its a great feature but the speed is too low for when it re-opens i feel. I got caught out and managed to scratch my mirrors a bit last time we were out. Best option is to manually fold them in, just means you have to manually unfold them.

Merry Christmas,

here is a sad picture :(

I had driven from Port Stephens to Sydney and the Jeep gave up 10min from home.
- throttle control warning
- low oil pressure warning
- blind spot monitoring warning
Then ignition off.
5,800km on the Jeep.

Turned off Pacific Highway and got 500m and happened again.

Had the Jeep assist (alliance) come and just made a funny idle sound... eventually wouldn't even start.

The tow truck came and the jeep decided to start normally and I drove it onto the tow truck.

Eventually got home to find the letter from Jeep advising of the factory recall for MY14 JGC.

Jeep fixed on Monday... just the recall issue.

so hopefully all good and get your Jeep fixed!

Sparky

Sounds similar to me. What was in the recall letter, mine was a dodgy earth (apparently, still yet to drive it since it went in)

Jeep upto its good old tricks. My wife tells me we received the recall letter on Thursday, so she called to book in the car for the New Year, and got a response from the service department of "what recall? We know nothing about one"
Her response was the one that has been in the papers and in the letter sent to us. ...
Just gives you a really good feeling that they are working on your car.

Collozzie,
I have had good results with 3M Exterior Trim Tape. It's in a blister pack the tape is coloured grey with a red release tape.
It sticks like sh1t to a blanket. I use it on just about everything that needs a double-sided tape application. Just don't plan on having an easy time separating your parts.

Probably moot now that the parts have broken, but keep it in mind for next time.
