Re: 2014 jcc overland spare wheel

THis one looks more like it, but with dual rear exhaust:

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Near Hicksville | Long Island Jeep Dealer

Looks like there is something happening behind the rear diff that would prevent a spare going in there. I'm looking at using the steel spare around town, and one on the roof when traveling.

I'm confused. Looks like a WK2 to me - a petrol 6. What do you think is different?

Well I think the most obvious is the trail arms on the original pic that shellhall posted, that looks like a WH/WK. The multilink suspension on the rear can be seen in Kev's picture, I think that is what takes up the extra space. The rear axle is different, and the exhaust.

edit: what would be interesting is to compare an ML350 underbody with the wk2....

I have purchased another genuine 18" wheel (still chasing a TPM to suit car, any help on that would be great to ) when car gets here I am having all 4 wheels and the new wheel fitted with Cooper AT3's. Then I plan to mount one spare in well bay,Hopefully the alloy will fit here and the other one hopefully the steel mount under the vehicle as there seems to be a large area and have found pics of wheels mounted here before. This way as we live remote and travel remote I can carry and have 2 spares at all times.

Have attached a photo of what I found below

Cheers
If you use this space for an extra tyre you cannot use it for an extra fuel tank.
I would rather have extra fuel for towing and put the extra tyre on the roof or elsewhere.

Re: 2014 jcc overland spare wheel

Should have reread the thread from the beginning LOL. I agree with with Benn0,.
I also had look at my WK2 and did some quick measurements and I don't think that you would be able to get a Tyre into that space. It's not quite big enough due to a chassis cross member etc behind the diff. Probably about 100mm too short.

That photo is the previous WH /K with solid rear axle. Th WK2 is independent suspension all-round and does not have enough space for the spare underneath. There is a heap of information on this forum, www.talkingjeepoz.com and ausjeep forum about spares and what tyres fit.

Re: 2014 jcc overland spare wheel

Hmmm. No. None of the photos show a live axle. I don't know how long it is since Jeep had a live axle rear, but these photos certainly don't show one. If you look closely you can see the CV joints on the side of the diff housing.
I would've been interested in hanging a spare up underneath too, mainly because I never seem to need it in a hurry. Oh well, back to using the vehicle just as the designers intended.
