Hi all,
I have on order a JCG Overland with 18" wheels, as you all know the main spare comes in a steel rim as well as a smaller tire. (even though all say full size spare) Any way, what I am looking at doing if anyone has any suggestions. as I don't have a vehicle in town to inspect for ideas until I get mine
I have purchased another genuine 18" wheel (still chasing a TPM to suit car, any help on that would be great to ) when car gets here I am having all 4 wheels and the new wheel fitted with Cooper AT3's. Then I plan to mount one spare in well bay,Hopefully the alloy will fit here and the other one hopefully the steel mount under the vehicle as there seems to be a large area and have found pics of wheels mounted here before. This way as we live remote and travel remote I can carry and have 2 spares at all times.
To be honest I really have no idea, and wont have any idea until I get myine here next year to work on that to see if possible, I am hoping it is. Google images can only supply me limited details lol. to have a car to view and meaure everything and see where to bolt it would be awesome, but not even our dealer has one in stock :-(
Try googling online Mopar sensors--or a local tire/wheel store. Swapped to winter wheels a bit ago, and totally seamless, and didn't even complain for the 5 miles or so when the factory sensors and the aftermarket wheels with Mopar sensors were in/on the vehicle.
An ome alloy 18 with a full size tyre, to match the four on the car WILL fit under the rear cargo area floor - just! It depends on the brand of tyre. I have an ome alloy with an ome Kuhmo tyre and the floor just closes with a bit of a push. I think the bridgestones are a bit squarer and fit a bit better.
I'm impressed by that photo - how did they get the GC to hover in the air like that?
Yes very different, wonder if 14 is different or same? I guess i will have to wait till mine is here to have a good look under it to work that soare out.
Looks like there is something happening behind the rear diff that would prevent a spare going in there. I'm looking at using the steel spare around town, and one on the roof when traveling.
Well I think the most obvious is the trail arms on the original pic that shellhall posted, that looks like a WH/WK. The multilink suspension on the rear can be seen in Kev's picture, I think that is what takes up the extra space. The rear axle is different, and the exhaust.
edit: what would be interesting is to compare an ML350 underbody with the wk2....
If you use this space for an extra tyre you cannot use it for an extra fuel tank.
I would rather have extra fuel for towing and put the extra tyre on the roof or elsewhere.
Should have reread the thread from the beginning LOL. I agree with with Benn0,.
I also had look at my WK2 and did some quick measurements and I don't think that you would be able to get a Tyre into that space. It's not quite big enough due to a chassis cross member etc behind the diff. Probably about 100mm too short.
That photo is the previous WH /K with solid rear axle. Th WK2 is independent suspension all-round and does not have enough space for the spare underneath. There is a heap of information on this forum, www.talkingjeepoz.com and ausjeep forum about spares and what tyres fit.
Hmmm. No. None of the photos show a live axle. I don't know how long it is since Jeep had a live axle rear, but these photos certainly don't show one. If you look closely you can see the CV joints on the side of the diff housing.
I would've been interested in hanging a spare up underneath too, mainly because I never seem to need it in a hurry. Oh well, back to using the vehicle just as the designers intended.
Damn, My mistake. I was looking at the two most recent photos and not the original one posted. certainly the old live axle setup allowed the spare under the back, the newer IRS takes up too much space.
Check with local Discount/America's Tire. They have aftermarket units or will sell you a genuine Mopar one. Or, you could try the mopar online parts places that are mainly dealers looking for more revenue.
I honestly don't recall if the standard spare comes with a TPMS, where if so, you could use it. Your dealer service techs might know.
Thanks All,
As I have never owned a Jeep and this will be my first Jeep ever, I had no idea of previous models etc. and still wont have mine for 8-10 weeks. so the info above has been a great help. I guess I will have to go the roof idea for a 2nd spare.
thanks all :thumbsup::thumbsup:
