Re: 2014 JGC Diesel rattle (Australia)

I had the RRT 14-104 PCM update applied and have done just over 200kms so far and I am surprised at how much quieter the engine is.

Very pleased so far and hopefully the rattle does not return

Now if only they could get the engine temperature gauge to stop sitting on the last white line before the red section when towing our caravan up inclines I'd be really happy. There doesn't seem to be any consistency as to when the engine cooling fan will or won't cut in and that tension of having to monitor the temperature gauge just takes all the fun out of it.
Ah, nice to know it's not just me watching the temp gauge when towing. Last November I picked up our 1.5 tonne van and went up Mt Ousley on a 39 degree day with AC on (yes, dumb I now). At the top, temp was just below the red but came down quickly on the downhill so didnt get to the stage of any warnings.

As for the clatter, I had the 14-104 applied mid January and have just completed 500kms towing and 500kms without. Not having owned a diesel before I was amazed at how quiet this motor is even before the update. In the caravan park you would hear all the Prados, Rangers, Nissans clattering off in the morning - so much more noticeable than the Jeep.

Re: 2014 JGC Diesel rattle (Australia)

I have had similar noise from the engine but on the 10,000 service this went away. I have used BP fuel in all three of my Jeeps but will try called just for curiosity.
I tow a 2 1/2 tonne van and on hot days up hills this Blackhawk does get quite close to the last white line near hot I was blaming the bash plate under the engine.
Now done 22,000 and have had to change Tyres to Toyo give them a go mainly stick to the bitumen

Re: 2014 JGC Diesel rattle (Australia)

After countless visits to the selling dealer and multiple firmware updates, none of which resolved the issue the dealer arranged for a new set of injectors to be installed last week. So far 500km later and no rattle from the engine!
Unfortunately that's not the end of it. When I picked the Jeep up and drove away the cabin is now full of diesel fumes when driving it. Back to the dealer yet again tomorrow. More rework!
Also had the rattle fixed in the sunroof, loose bolts I was told. And the dealer has left grease marks on the trim, carpet and seats (cream interior).
Adelaide City Jeep, need to lift your game, seriously! In the 7 months I've had the Jeep I'd say I've been back 12 times, almost every two weeks. 2 years and 5 months to go.
Still no fix for the ECO switch, even though the software update was released over a month ago.

And some people wonder why I get as little done at the dealer as possible. Every time I go there they stuff up something.
Last time, for the "new and improved reversing camera" fitment, a big upgrade from total rubbish to barely acceptable, they washed my car (which did NOT need a wash) and completely stuffed the finish on my polished aluminium 'roo bar. After two hours of my time and elbow grease, it's still not back to what it was before they got their hands on it. Grrrrrr

Still have to get the Dec 18 software update for DPF, diesel clatter, and stability control warning light done. I'm wondering what they will stuff up next time.

PS. Wasn't there a fix needed for sun visor wiring. The dealer claims not! The Jeep is a great machine. I love it.
The dealers and CJ Aust, bloody terrible.

Don't lose too much sleep over the temp gauge.

Yes, it moves a lot, at least it actually MOVES unlike many modern vehicles which have damped down gauges which quite literally "lie through their teeth."

I always monitor mine when towing my 3T van with OBD Fusion running on the iPad or iPhone.
The temp gauge moves up near the top then stops. Engine temp rises from somewhere around 97 to 103 on the flat to about 109 on most big hills.
The very highest I've seen is I think 113? or something like that on a hot day, long steep climb, just not an issue at all.
Highest oil temp I've seen (BIG hill, 3Tonnes on the back) is 125C.
A friends Amarock often sees that on the flat!!!

There is a recall but for the following.....
2011 2014 (WD) Dodge Durango
(WK) Jeep Grand Cherokee
NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a sun visor vanity light (sales code GNC) built through December 11, 2013 (MDH 121119).http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/rc_P3614.pdf
Yours might be a bit later build.

As for the reversing camera debacle - I had a conversation with my local sales manager several weeks ago where he confirmed that all Laredo vehicles through that dealership were now being fitted with the genuine Jeep bezel and OEM camera - still done in their workshop but equivalent in all respects to the factory job, however with static, not dynamic guide lines. He did agree that they had fitted more than a few crap cameras before the change though.
There may still be some hope.......
John

Check what recalls your car has here by putting your VIN in.

Ignore recall P67 if it comes up.

I had the sun visor recall done when they fixed up my limp mode.

Re: 2014 JGC Diesel rattle (Australia)

Had the GC back to Adelaide City for fumes in the cabin after the injector replacements last week. They couldn't find and diesel or exhaust leaks. What they did do was replace the paper cabin filter with a carbon one. No more diesel fumes in the cabin now! Also fixed rattle in sun roof, loose bolts, one fell out when the headlining was removed. Must say though Phil at Adelaide City Jeep made sure the jobs were done right and took time out to explain the Chrysler software update process (or lack thereof). Still no 2014 ECO button fix yet.

Theres a TSB for the whiff of diesel fumes, whether its the cause of your issue ??? they just install the filter as you mentioned.

There is a fix to remember the ECO button preference and some shift pattern adjustments (or something like that?).

Re: 2014 JGC Diesel rattle (Australia)

Thanks Steve, yes I gave a copy of the ECO TSB to the dealer and part of Phil's explanation was that Chrysler control the TSB program so that when the dealer fires up the PC that does the updates it checks for any new TSBs and downloads as it sees fit. The dealer has no control. Said PC is plugged into vehicle and it checks what TSBs are relevant to the VIN of the vehicle. If the program doesn't match the VIN with the TSB it won't update the vehicle. The dealer doesn't know what TSBs have been downloaded. So every time I go in my GC gets plugged in, but no ECO TSB available yet. Dealer doesn't know when new updates are downloaded until it happens. No info from Chrysler for the dealer, so they can't tell me until they see a new update being downloaded when they log into the PC when they are about to connect it to a vehicle.

Re: 2014 JGC Diesel rattle (Australia)

Slightly off subject but relevant to the TSB program. I received a letter from Chrysler last year advising of a fix for the sunvisor. I decided to leave it to the next service. Had a service in Feb, and the dealer told me that there were no updates outstanding for my car. Went to the Mopar site, input my Vin, and it shows 2 items, R09, P36 still outstanding.
Chrysler still have a long way to go with their technical maintenance programs.
