I am new to the world of Jeep (and this forum!)...
I live in Brisbane and recently purchased myself a fishing boat - and so next came the need for a comfortable car to tow it, and allow me to head over to Frazer and Straddie fishing / camping etc.
After a LOT of looking, I have decided on a Jeep GC overland, TD, in black, and have spent the last 2 weeks negotiating prices.
The thing is - I am worried I am missing somthing when choosing the Overland over the Summit.
The Summit (as I am lead to believe) is a limited edition of 200 cars and is seemingly cleverly marketed as "upmarket" over and above the Overland.
The Summit (as I am aware) has:
1. Extra Plastic "Chrome" around the front (I think it looks over the top and tacky personally)
2. Coloured wheel arch trims and skirts (My Car will be black so wont matter / be noticable)
3. Different wheels - which IMHO are again tacky (shiney, spoke like) - I much prefer the overland wheels which are more contemporary, solid and classy.
4. Few more speakers in the sound system
5. Different hood liner
6. Natura-Plus "Leather" which is I am told is not even genuine leather on the seats!!! (Cant believe this!!)
7. Extra 5K on the price tag over the overland for above features.
8. Summit are all 2013 build plate. I can get a 2014 Build plate car from next month. (come resale, a 2014 car will be worth more than 2013, regardless of a few trinkets).
I would be keen to hear peoples opinion?
Did anyone else choose an overland, over the summit for similar or any other reasons?
Have I missed something about the summit and I should reconsider?
Lastly, I want a few extras on the car - but have been put off by the rediculous prices they want, then slugged ~30% with luxury car tax and stamp duty on these prices...
Tow Bar => Does anyone in Brisbane fit tow bars, that work with the reverse sensors (turn off when tow ball in use) etc, for a sensible price? I have been quoted $1500 for a factory option one.
Front Tow hook => Does anyone in Brisbane fit these?
Underbody protection => Someone told me there is someone on this site, who is developing such underbody protection in Brissy??
Thanks so much in advance for your thoughts / sharing your experiences.
I am also keen on getting these for my overland when it arrives... Certainly the underbody protection... Not 100% sure on rock rails yet - depends how it looks - would love to see pics..
Is there a link available to these items?
Are the underbody protection plates an alternative to the underbody protection plate offered by the guy making one here in Brissy (I have read about it on this site somewhere that the MOPAR ones are thin / flimsy??)
so i had the rails and skid set installed at frizelles.
not impressed with them, despite their reputation on here.
was quoted ~3-4hrs @ $133/hr
ended up taking 9hrs !
dropped car off at 815am didn't get car back til 530pm
sat around australia fair most of the day then at the dealer lounge which didn't have much there for 2hrs
they charged me $598 in the end
haven't had time to even look at them, as by the time i got back to brisbane it was dark
The GC Limited 3.6L was ordered in March and I have been trying to learn as much as I can from you guys before it arrives.
The cryptic type comment I got from the contract manager when we signed "check the car fully as you will sign for as delivered, when you pick it up" made me think I need a list of things to check when I'm there and the WOW factor overwhelms the need to correctly check the vehicle.
With a little research from Jeep Garage and me being anally retentive, I developed this list.
It provides me with prompts of items to check when the day arrives.
There's a thread on here (US WK2) about "Grease on Wheels, is this normal?" Have a look, it explains more with Photos, but the Clamps were not fitted, or fell off (loose?) on the CV Joint "boots". Sorry but I don't know how to "link" it here.
Hi Mark, like most here I rate the actual vehicle (JGC) very highly, but I don't rate, or trust, the Quality Control of the Jeep very well at all, so your Checklist upon Delivery is a very sensible idea.
That Boot Clamp issue, for instance, appears to be a simple Assembly or Dealer Delivery (check) oversight. I also have on my list to check the Power Steering Fluid level. Some new owners have reported low Power Steering fluid levels upon delivery. Again, such a simple fix, but the Jeep QC sucks.
A comprehensive check on delivery may/will alleviate a great deal of heartache later on. That CV Joint Boot Clamp thing still blows me away That was just plain stupid.
Hey Mate,
Its on the Salome on its way as far as I know. 4week trip, 2weeks pre delivery once I get the heads up from Alex at waitara on the tow bar and Camera installed, I'll have the Triton on the boat and I'll be there.
Yeah thanks Bloke lol.
We go the ferry a lot about eight times in fourteen years since moving down here. Wife always gets sick, me, I always enjoy the journey.... A medicinal dose of Jacks always takes the edge off a big swell when the ship is pitching and rolling, mean while my darling is throwing up and doing it tough.
Hope my mates not such a Nancy lol. Seriously though I do feel for folk who are affected by any sort of motion sickness.
Sheesh, I am kinda glad when I bought mine, only needed 14 days to ship out to me, I guess they never accounted for the popularity of the vehicle, but know this, hopefully your cars won't suffer any downtime like ours from the earlier builds
They are normally on road prices, but obviously there is variation in comparison depending on your state. I have heard of Overland Diesel for $70k on the road in QLD, that is a very good price, IMO.
Rocksfly - could I get a copy of your delivery check list too please when you get back? I'm not very mechanically minded - but I'm sure it will be very useful.
