ACC Still broken- Jeep have NFI

I do not know what to do.
As some of you know, my Active Cruise Control was broken when I got my car serviced (10k km) in March. Since that time I have been waiting for parts and then the tool to install it.
Finally last week the tool came in and it was booked in for yesterday. Dropped the car off and was given a POS Dodge Caliber, but it was nice to have a drive car. Got a call yesterday afternoon advising me they could not get it to work and that Chrysler was sending out a specialist to work on in on Friday.
Got a call this afternoon saying I will not be happy. They still cannot fix the problem. When I collected the car, I asked them what the next course of action was and was told they did not know.

I will be on to my friend in CJD and telling her about how poorly this has been handled. I have had to follow up the whole process and after a 3+ month wait they cannot get it working and have no idea how to fix it.

I will be going on a family trip to the Gold Coast at the beginning of September and now have no faith the problem will be fixed. I told my dealer I will demanding a car with working cruise control if mine is not fixed as it is unacceptable to have no cruise at all for long distance trips.

It is also very poor that Jeep have NFI on how to fix it, even the experts do not have a clue. This worries me as the hi level of tech these cars run will only result in more problems.

So not I have had 2 trips to the dealer to fix this problem and 8 phone calls and 2 emails chasing them up to find out the progress. In return I have had 2 calls and one email, all in response to me. They have not contacted me without me initiating it.

We have 3 kids and my wife is the one who drives it most of the time, so swapping cars and car seats is a pain in the butt. In addition to her not feeling confident in the reliability with all the starting problems, is making her lose all confidence in it.

Depending on how Jeep treat this situation next week will determine if I start an ACCC case as we have had too many issues and have been more than patient.
The problem is I would not want a different car, as I still think they are the best bang for my buck, but the service and problems are beyond a joke.

Under Australian consumer law this would be classed as a major failure as it has not been rectified in a reasonable timeframe. This would then entitle you to a replacement vehicle or a full refund. I have my first hearing in my case against jeep in a couple of weeks, but do your own research, until these manufacturers and dealers start being challenged they will keep feeding consumers b.s for as long as they can get away with it

I know and told the dealer that if they do not sort it out, I will be doing just that.
I am also keen to see how you go with your claim. I am glad mine has not died like yours, but the bugs are really pissing my wife off and I am copping it, as I chose the car.

Re: ACC Still broken- Jeep have NFI

Enforcer, I don't want to sound like I'm telling you what you already know, but your ACC is nothing more than components, wires, electronics and logic. Any engineer worth his salt should be able to break the system down into elements then fault find from there, especially someone with a "special tool"!. Thats how a good engineer would fix or condemn to death all things mechanical/electrical. Keeps planes in the air. Do you know a good auto electrcian for a second opinion?

Re: ACC Still broken- Jeep have NFI

Hi Glenn, I am an IT engineer and said to the service manager that they just need to replace parts until it is fixed. I doubt any Auto Electrician would have a clue about these things as they are model specific and unless they have training on these particular cars, they will not have any idea. Being that the expert from Chrysler had no idea how to fix it and neither did the expert from Melbourne who was consulted on the phone, does not instill me with confidence.
My main issue is they have no idea (or at least not told my dealer) on what is the next step. I would have expected a call from CJD appologising for the way I have been treated and at least some form of plan on how they are going to fix it. But yet again, I will be the one calling up and finding out WFT they are going to do about it.

Tell them to replace it with an SRT8 for all your troubles :P

That sucks though, my Quadralift has been playing up here and there, and GPS antenna needs to be replaced, dealer said two weeks, so lets wait and see.

Re: ACC Still broken- Jeep have NFI

I would hate to think this is an example of what is to come buying a car from a manufacturer with poor representation in Australia.

Prior to this car I had ZERO interest in Jeep. This car looks, feels and goes / should go well but it is not being backed up professionally.

By comparison, IMO probably 80-90% of the problems we've all encountered would not have been experienced with nearly all Japanese manufacturers as most have been here for decades and their part supply and technical expertise has stood the test of time.

Are we Jeep's guinea pigs?

If this gets any worse (which seems to be the case) maybe we should collectively petition CJD USA, advising them that as Australian consumers of their product, we are being grossly let down by CJD Australia ranging from sales, part supplies to technical backup. We could also warn them if we do not see immediate positive results we'll get on any online forum warning future prospective buyers what we're going through.

Re: ACC Still broken- Jeep have NFI

I suspect one of the problems is that none of the mechanics (I use that word reluctantly, as I assume they all did some sort of Tafe course in the study of spark plugs and thermostats), have had any real Jeep training. When you look at the dealerships, many of them are selling several brands of cars as well as their many models. Those mechanics probably get to dabble with all makes, and never really learn any one make or even model.
I very much doubt if any of them go to a Jeep formal training course, but instead get to take home a couple of DVD's to learn from in their spare time.

Hear what you are saying but would love to stand over a techy and let him tell you that he is getting some mA reading at the device. I suppose no ACC means no collision warning? Just got back from a sprint around the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Without advance collision warning I would have just totalled my new car and the Falcon who slammed on to turn right. Was distracted for a split second at 80kmh and the ACW probably saved a lfe. First time (and hopefully the last) I've depended on ABS. Wish we were covered by some sort of Lemon Law for cases like yours. I can live with a damaged trim panel but to have a fundemental safety device fail without a plan to fix is a joke. That's what you/me and others paid top dollar for.

Here's a link to Gribb's section of the law. Quite an interesting read, especially section 259.

Re: ACC Still broken- Jeep have NFI

Interesting comment made about contacting Chrysler in the USA. I contacted the USA when I was having trouble with the A/T tyres etc and my issues were then resolved very quickly by Jeep Oz...

Contacts are easy to find on the corporate website - I sent an email to the Pres of Jeep brand - a fellow by the name of Michael Manley.

It is worth a try.
