Same with seat protection. They spray the seats with Scotchguard, then charge a fortune for it.
To do it properly, you should wash the car thoroughly, claybar it, then add sealant. If you really make the effort, by doing the prep work, the car will look pristine for years.
I am sure anyone can use a can of scotchguard without stuffing it up. There are some very good leather protectorants out there for those who want to go the extra step.
Exactly why I wouldn't touch it from a dealer.

I am considering paint protection from a reputable professional detailer however. It will take a full day to apply and includes washing and claying the paintwork, cleaning the surface with iso-alcohol, applying the protection which then requires a minimum of 12 hours to cure. I agree with you regarding scotchguard and leather protectant, and would be doing that myself.

The last time I had the Ming Mole try to sell me something, she left in tears.
I now make it a condition of buying a car that I do not have to speak with the options bitch, ming mole, paint protection pussy, tinting tramp or service slut. Funny how they always seem to have chicks with big tits selling these ripoff extras.

So eloquently stated! I do the exactly the same.

I bought mine from Suttons Sydney so they didn't get the opportunity to ask if I wanted any fries!

No girls at my dealer some guye that thought he knew everything about the wk2, did not like to be corrected (18% tint to all windows, not just the front 2 $800) and wallked off.

Skid plates - is this a DIY or should I order it with the car? Anyone ordered them online?

Window tint - not sure it's needed. Who has tinted theirs and why?

Side steps - Definitely DIY if I do it. Chrome or Black on a Mineral Grey?

Paint/Interior protection - NOT from the dealer but from a professional detailer at 1/3 the cost. Looking at opti-clear.

Slush mats and cargo liner

Tow hooks - if Jeep get their act together!

Headrest Tablet holders and a couple of iPads for the kids on long trips.
I'm in the process of getting quotes for mine now. Will be optioning the offroad adventure pack, towbar, rock rails, window tint, and exchanging the standard Kumho tyres for Cooper Discoverer A/T3 all terrain tyres.

Hope for some to start coming back tomorrow.

Regarding paint protection, I doubt that it's any use at all. My Holden Jackaroo spent 12 years outside a garage, went offroad quite a bit, and after a buff in December it looked sensational ... until it was T-boned. Nothing beats regular cleaning, and a good quality wax a couple of times a year.

I just tell them straight up they are not going to flog me any of their crap, so don't waste my time and theirs trying. It must be the way I say it, but they realize pretty quick they are flogging a dead horse and give up.

Re: Accessories

Selous - If you want a good tinting person, google Hunters Hill window tinting. The guys name is Rob. he does a great job, can come to you or you go to him. Good price great work, he will be doing mine soon.

As for side steps etc, i would try and get some rock rails that can double as side steps, they look good and give you protection. I dont know what is available in Aus, im going to get my own fabricated when i get time.

Edit - similar to these, http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f309/...stall-1164159/

Re: Accessories

Hey folks, I'm in the process of changing from an X5 to a JGC Limited not really for an off road car.
I've been researching accessories and would like opinions if these would fit the aussie model:

I am confused if this connects to the tow points which we dont (?) have
http://www.carid.com/2012-jeep-grand...ar-106144.html

This is a must as my missus is a short arse
http://www.carid.com/2012-jeep-grand...rs-396363.html

Are the 2 above something I could install myself?
Also, does anyone know of a similar product to this for RHD cars
http://www.carid.com/2012-jeep-grand...er-215160.html

To add to previous discussion, the 'tint' seems to be coloured glass and therefore would offer no uv protection, can you get a clear uv film for the privacy windows and then get a dark uv tint for the fronts to match the privacy ones?

thanks

Re: Accessories

Yes you can get UV clear tint.
I done it on mine and made a huge difference to the interior temp.

The Aries bull bar is shown fitted to a 2010 model JGC which is completely different in design. I doubt it would fit the 2012. If it does fit the MY2012, It may interfere with the front parking sensors and looks like it would definitely not work with the adaptive cruise control sensor on the Overland. Apart from all that, you could only fit it legally if it complies with the ADR.

Mopar make genuine tubular bars for the JGC, you can find them on ebay.

As for fitting them yourself, it depends on how handy you are and what is involved in fitting them. The Mopar bars are DIY for anyone moderately handy - they just bolt on. Not sure about the ones in your link.

Mopar also make genuine slush mats for the JGC but I believe they are around $280 for the set in RHD. I did read somewhere the LHD Mopar mats will fit RHD pretty well, with only some minor trimming of the drivers mat required. I don't know whether that is correct or not. The LHD mats are way cheaper and can be found on ebay too. Along with mats, I'd recommend a rubber cargo liner as well.

Not a big fan of car bras myself. If I was minded to fit a car bra, I'd rather use something like this:

The floor mats are moulded for LHD, they will not fit, I got them and had to cut them up to get them in.

The Bar will not fit 2010 has a different chassis. WK2 is wider. The photo may be just a representation purpose only.
