Air intake CRD design

Have been reading about the Hydrolock on a V6 Vehicle and it got me wondering how is the intake positioned on the CRD? Has anybody been in heavy raining and looked at the air filter to see if water is getting in or draining efficiently.

Maybe a snorkel (when developed) is a good insurance policy?

Re: Air intake CRD design

The intake looks like the v6 pentastar one. I did a heap of driving in very heavy rain and had no problem, but did not check the filter if it was wet. I would only get a snorkel if I was planning to do lots of fording as it seems unnesassary for anything but extreme 4x4'ing.

Re: Air intake CRD design

Enforcer thats what I was thinking, just one post on the site that hyrolock occurred whilst driving through largish puddles on the road. This is something that you cant always avoid.

So I'm hoping the air intake design has adequate venting for water.

Re: Air intake CRD design

Yeah I am sure there is a lot more to that story than has been revealed here. Many owners have done fording and river crossings and have not hydro locked their motors. It also does not take 100+mi for it to occur. Any Hydro locking will be instant once you ingest the water.

Re: Air intake CRD design

Rain won't hydrolock your engine, Intake would need to be submerged to do that, surely it can't rain that much.... I'm done Ni Night...
