Re: Anyone else with burnt/damaged DRLs?

I have same issues and if you check your taillights you will see the same issue there. Over the bulb is the cloudy spot

Bad quality of the chrome coating.

Re: Anyone else with burnt/damaged DRLs?

I already have the DRL issues pointed out for my 30k service but I just checked my rear tail lights and the heat from the bulbs have burnt through the lenses directly above it!

I had pointed the moisture ingress to the service manager in the tail lights and looks like I found out why.

I'm not sure the chrome is the problem. For all we know, the cloudiness might just wipe off but we know for sure that the plastic lamp bases are overheating. You can see the scorching. The cloudiness may be the vinyls condensing on the chrome. If someone has their headlight off, could you have a look and let us know.

Re: Anyone else with burnt/damaged DRLs?

I have the same cloudiness on my taillights and sockets aren't burnt at all. Admit that the cloudiness isn't that large though, but the plastic locked melted like somebody put a lighter under it.

You will not see it easily, because it is at the ceiling of the outer, upper bulb housing. I dismounted the taillights and tried to wipe it of, didn't work but I also didn't apply to much pressure to prevent the chrome coating going of. Touch with my fingers it felt like somebody went with a sandpaper over it.

I will see if I can put some pictures in.

That definitely sounds like permanent heat damage. So much for my theory.

Re: Anyone else with burnt/damaged DRLs?

I just checked mine and both headlights are Farked.
The list of issues is growing for my 20k service.

Re: Anyone else with burnt/damaged DRLs?

My Dealer is replacing both front headlights and tail lights this week at the 30k service.

I did ring Jeep customer service for the issue to be logged as such against the vehicle and the service representative stated this is the first of hearing about this issue. I suggested Jeep may fix the issue with LED globes otherwise they may be replacing my headlights again in 6mths time. Again, the representative would look into this and get back to me. I'm not holding my breath on that.

IMHO I believe the P27 incandescent globes being replaced with the LED option would save Jeep Aus a set of headlights/taillights every 6mths.

I did try to take a photo of the rear taillights showing the hole in the lens above the globe. I just couldn't get the focus right to highlight the issue.

Re: Anyone else with burnt/damaged DRLs?

The tail lights on mine are immaculate at the moment. No hint of any cloudiness or heat damage at all. The DRL's though are clouded at the top.

Re: Anyone else with burnt/damaged DRLs?

The blind spot in my taillights is about 1inch in diameter, so definitely smaller than in the DRLs.

DRLs and Taillights work with the same bulbs; two filament 3157 bulb. I assume that more damage in the DRLs is because they run on 27watt filament, while the taillights run mainly on the 8watt one, using the 27watt only for braking (or turning in the US). (I have an US so slightly more usage on the 27watt filament).

Bottom line, there will be the same effect in the reflectors like in the DRLs just takes longer (probably after the warranty).

Re: Anyone else with burnt/damaged DRLs?

Guys,
The cloudiness at the top of the drl housing is a factory condition. Was discussed on old threads when the new JGCs were debuted in 2010. Not a defect. I have had the putco's drl LEDs in my jeep for over 20 months now, no problems and the cloudiness is the same. Go check out any 2013 on a dealer lot and you will see this condition.

Maybe, can somebody check?

My front lights is a similar story. Left has done 22000 km and the right was changed (after hitting an Emu) at 9000 km. Both have a similar cloud but the socket is burnt more on the older one.

I am trying to include pictures here:

Could you let us know how much they change? When my front head light was changed the spare part price was: Front headlight assembly $1933.99. Could be very costly if the reflector alone can't be changed.
