Anyone installed a 240v inverter ?

Just wondering if anyone has installed a 240v inverter into a GC and how and where you did it ? I was wondering about how much space is in the middle console where the factory one is in the US version...

I am looking at a Projecta Pure Sine Wave 350W not sure if that will be too big for that space.

Re: Anyone installed a 240v inverter ?

I have not installed one however, will keep and eye on yours to see the outcome. Looks like you will be the first.
I'm not sure I would use the 240V often enough to justify the cost and install time but I could be wrong.

Mate I used one plugged into the rear 12v outlet it was a 350w projecta cupholder type. Ran it for about 1hr.I had to retrieve a prado from the snow that had frozen fuel. I used the 240v to run the fan on a gas workshop heater/blower that I placed under the car to heat the fuel tanks and fuel lines. I was a little concerned with the size of the oem plug wiring. If I was to run a bigger inverter I would certainly run much heavier cable direct to the battery.

Re: Anyone installed a 240v inverter ?

I use a small 150w inverter that is plugged into the outlet in the centre console and then sits under the drivers seat. I plug in a 4 way power board and then the kids can charge ipads etc whilst driving, and then its all removed when not needed.

The only issue is my inverter makes a high pitched squeal when it's first switched on with ignition. Need to turn it off and on again, but that may be a fault with the inverter itself

Re: Anyone installed a 240v inverter ?

OK, thanks guys, my 350W pure sine wave inverter should arrive next week so will have to see where it might fit best. Will let you know. And yes will be wiring direct to the battery

(I have a number of chargers and things that arent easily converted to 12v supply)

Re: Anyone installed a 240v inverter ?

This is not much help,I know, but I run a Thumper battery box (mainly for the fridge) with a 600w Projecta inverter mounted on top. I strap it in the cargo area on long/camping trips. Works a treat - even ran a TV in the tent! Plus I only have a 240v chargers for my sat phone and the iPad, so they charged up while driving. Need a power board as well though, as the inverter has only one outlet.

Not really much to see, but here are some pics of the Thumper and the inverter.

The Anderson plug in the second photo is for the cable which runs from the battery via a Thumper provided charging controller, or from a 240v charger which Can use if the setup is out of the car for a while. The inverter is hard wired into the Thumper as shown in the third photo. The Anderson plug in this photo can be used for jump starting cars or other heavy duty loads. I use it for running a tyre compressor as i can reach all car and trailer tyres more easily from the cargo area than from the lugs under the bonnet. Let's know if there is anything else you'd like to know.

Re: Anyone installed a 240v inverter ?

Thanks, I have installed the Projecta 350W inverter under the driver's seat immediately above the battery. Just fits nicely under the cross bar of the seat with no interference :-)

Wired direct to the battery but with a 40A circuit breaker close to the + terminal. Haven't used it yet but its out of sight, not in the way, can stay there permanently and not too hard to get to to plug in a power board.

Will send some pics soon.

Re: Anyone installed a 240v inverter ?

OK finally taken a couple of pictures of the inverter installed. Just come back from a desert trip and all worked very well. Install right on top of battery under drivers seat. Just fits nicely. Added auto resetting circuit breaker right next to battery positive terminal for safety.

I like this inverter as it has built in protection for short circuit, over temp, over current and the fan is auto speed controlled for temperature.

To hold it in place I have just used industrial strength velcro tabs under teh mounting plates at each end. Tested going on very rough corrugated desert roads for 200kms and no movement or issues so far.

Glad I added a cap to the fuel filler for all that red dust as suggested in another thread on this forum - thanks !

The pictures are views under the drivers seat from the front and back, the 240v outlet faces the rear seat.
