Re: ARB Bullbar Delayed

I too asked ARB reps at the 4WD show about their bar, and they had no clue. I knew more about it than they did. You would think that is they are sending reps to these shows, they would brief them beforehand.
I had a look at the UNEEK bar, and must say it looks a lot better in reality than what it did on the web.

The rep told me they had photos on the web of it on a GC. I asked him if he took the photos. He said no, so I promptly told him the photos are crap and look as if they were taken on an iPhone. He sheepishly nodded his head and said, "They were!" . Had I been quick, I could have offered my photographic services for absolutely free asking only for a mere bullbar in return.

Because you said this, I checked and sure enough, they have finally listed it. Has anybody priced it... or don't I want to know?

A Landcruiser with a chassis is obviously stronger than a RAV4 with a unibody but weight for weight, the unibody wins hands down. The Merc G-Wagen on which I think the WK2 body is based is a unibody.

Got a flyer emailed from my local ARB shop and the price stated was $1996 (East Coast metro) no indication of the cost of fitting. I would then factor in the cost of recovery hooks, a weird omission by ARB.

From their web site (Deluxe bar | Products | ARB 4x4 Accessories)

  • Includes 4.5T rated tow point;
Tow point ≠ recovery point?

Re: ARB Bullbar Delayed

One tow point but no recovery points on the ARB bar, unbelievable! We are worse off than we were before when we had just one recovery point. ARB must be blissfully unaware of the recovery point issue or they think the GC is just a soft SUV and not worthy of recovery points. But it has the name and it does look business like so I'm sure they will sell a few.

I think you will find that the uni body design has some flaws, one of which is its inability to sustain a proper recovery point. A uni body chassis relies on other parts of the vehicle for strength, and in an everyday driving situation out performs a traditional chassis. However, when attempting a recover and all the additional forces exerted in horizontal directions, the frame twists and bends. This has been the whole issue with the recovery points, both factory and aftermarket. Any keen 4x4'er will be able to tell you a story about someone bending a car while trying to recover.... its a shame, but reality.

Aah wouldn't that be an even better reason to put 2 recovery points on the front so you can use an equalising strap to share the load across more of the unibody, or would that be to much logic :-), seems like it was for ARB

What about the US vehicles that come with hooks as standard?
Haven't heard any stories about bent vehicles over there
