I hear ya Bob. I emailed Stu Murchison and asked if he had a plate to fit but no joy. I don't think I'm the first to enquire after this part because he mentioned that perhaps he should look at making one. In the meantime, I was thinking of getting a mate to fashion a fiberglass piece to replace the cardboard and provide a little more protection til a steel/alloy one becomes available.

Problem is that it's probably only going to be as strong as its anchor points and the 6mm bolts that fix into the vehicle. Obviously a problem that a metal bumper would fix. I suppose something is better than nothing and I'm just not prepared to take it of all together.

Clarkey.

Did my usual round of emails to the usual suspects and got this very informative ;-( response from TJM.

"Hi Paul,

Thank uo for contacting TJM.

There are a number of products in development for the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, however there has been no release dates given as yet.

I would suggest you keep an eye on the TJM website for product releases.

I tried to get some more info out of him, but he basically said R&D don't tell us sales guys sh&t!.
Possibly promising. (Maybe).???????

Good work Yoda.

Time was always gonna be the issue before others got in board. I think if the retailers look at these forums they will see the market for that's out there for this stuff.

Just look at the skid plate threads on this and other forums. Even the US guys are hanging for a new solution.

Thanks again.

Clarkey.

Re: ARB Bullbar Delayed

A recent reply to me from ARB,

"Hi Bob,
"Thank you for your recent email regarding the WK2 bar. Our engineers are still working on the development stage of the bar. I had also forwarded your email of November to them with your suggestions.

"Without the magazine cover at hand I think the bar you are describing is our Sahara Range of bars, essentially a bar without the tubes protecting the headlights. At this stage ARB donít have plans for this style of bar for the WK2 as traditionally this hasnít been a style asked for by Grand Cherokee owners.

"As the WK2 Grand Cherokee is sold both locally and overseas there is additional engineering time required to ensure that different markets donít have different accessories and locations of sensors, cameras and other items that will impact on fitment. The internet has obviously helped to cut down on this process but canít always be relied upon 100%.

"Iíd suggest that you keep watching the ARB website or get in contact with your local ARB store or stockist to keep you posted of any developments.

"Regards

Stephen Sampson
Product Manager"

The reference to the "magazine cover" refers to the March issue of 4x4Australia, see the attached scanned image.

I replied as follows,

"Stephen,

"Iíve attached a copy of the cover of the mag (apologies 4x4 Australia) to show the modified bar. It isnít the Sahara bar. In my view, the Sahara bar looks rather tacky, like a nudge bar or a claytonís bull-bar. The modified bar looks great, functional, strong and preserves the lines of the vehicle. Also, the light bar tops it off. OK, it doesnít protect the headlight area but that isnít critical. The grill and air damn areas are highly critical. On my WK2, that area houses the radiator, engine oil cooler, transmission oil cooler and turbo inter-cooler, damage to any one of which will disable the vehicle. There is also the a/c evaporator but that is neither here nor there.

Bob"

Hi guys, prototypes are currently being developed and we hope to do an initial test fit shortly. Unfortunately, photos won't be available until we're a bit further down the track. We do appreciate your patience though. We are working to get this released as soon as possible but we also need to ensure that it's right.Cheers, Sam.

Re: ARB Bullbar Delayed

I think part of the delay will be the need to create moulded infill panels like ARB use on the current Landcruiser. This is the only way to create a acceptable transition from the bullbar to the vehicle sheetmetal.

Cheers

Re: ARB Bullbar Delayed

When I was at the service center in Artarmon, I spotted a JGC with a bar. I have no interest in this type of thing, but I snapped a picture of it. It did not look too bad in the flesh.

Definitely the ECB bar, see http://www.ecb.com.au/vehicle.php?Ma...5&SEARCH3.y=10 . They also have one for the Overland.

For anyone interested, my 2012 WK2 is being scanned on Monday&Tuesday next week for a local aftermarket manufacturer to design and build a bullbar. It will take a few months and have to go though due process for ADR etc.
You might see more info over time on the 'ausjeepoffroad' forum.

While it may take some time, I'm very happy to be supporting a local Aus business that is interested and support Jeep vehicles.

Re: ARB Bullbar Delayed

Who is the "local aftermarket manufacturer" that's doing it??

Be good to look at some of their other work to get an idea of what's possible for the WK2.
