Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

hi guys I had dab on my 2014 Laredo it work perfectly when stationary but would drop out while in motion. took it in for a service now nothing! dab button is still there with tab and rsn stations in presets but no signal. running 14.25.5 software. have had a tinker behind the unit and it seems the fakra antenna connection is the feed for both am and fm has anyone had any success with retrofitting a dab antenna to the connections behind passenger rear cargo trim? cheers

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

Hi all,
New to the forum and this is my first post. I have been following with some interest but haven't been motivated enough to chase this before this week.

I have a 2013 build MY14 GC Limited CRD. The DAB option appeared following the software upgrade for UConnect to 14.25.5.

In order to retrofit a DAB antenna I'm thinking the Mopar part 68170481AC is necessary to easily connect to the open dual port connector behind the left C pillar trim to some form of antenna. This 'wire' is available in Aus for around $80. Connecting to the other end of this Mopar wire with any form of antenna is another issue.

Has anyone done this? Is there an easier way? - like the splitter option?

Would be nice to get DAB if it's available. Any further advice much appreciated.

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

I am just waiting to get some time to pull off that rear trim to see the connector and see how hard it would be to add that part referred to before that uses the existing antenna from what I understand and also improves gain for FM and AM.

Does anyone know a link to a good set of instructions for removing that trim section in the back ?

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

I've still got half my rear trim off but not the C pillar, i'll have a go at removing the C pillar trim on the weekend and take pics for you guys.

Note though, I'm fairly sure the DAB antenna is actually on the glass of the cargo area window (looks like a heater element) on the passenger side and the shark fin is only used for AM/FM so that part number your referring to may not be the one wvollbon.

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

The plan for the Mopar part 68170481AC was to then connect an aftermarket DAB antenna. The part 68170481AC has the button style clip on one end that attaches to the MY15 glass antenna. I was going to see how reception is without an antenna and then procure something like the one that has been mentioned previously in this thread and join somehow.

All a bit convoluted but hey, what else is there to do!!

I pulled the C pillar trim back enough to spy the unconnected coax type cable and connector. The connector is very specific and from the wiring diagrams and parts catalogues this seems to be the lead to the antenna that supplies the DAB/Satellite signal (all part descriptions through Mopar refer to DAB). The C pillar trim has a soft plastic layer over the front side, closest the margin of the rear part of the rear door. I pulled this out of the way and then pried the trim back enough to manually unhook a few clips and could pull it away enough to stick a torch in to see the connector. Two pairs of long nose pliers should allow connection of the cables without the need for pulling the entire C pillar trim off. It may require me to have the dexterity of a brain surgeon though...

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

Update:
Part has not arrived yet. However, can confirm that a MY14 2013 build GC can receive DAB in Australia.
Line of sight with broadcast antennas in Brisbane around 2-3km as the crow flies saw multiple DAB stations able to be tuned. Signal/sound dropped in and out like the signal strength was not adequate.
To tune the stations, press DAB, press Browse, press All, press Refresh list.

I am hoping with the addition of the above part and an antenna the signal will be more reliable.

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

Good info. Could you refresh us on whether you have always had the DAB button, or whether it appeared after a particular firmware update?

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

I am 99% sure it showed up after the 14.25.5 update. Hard to say as I only had the GC a week before the update was applied.
Interestingly a friend has a 2014 build MY14 Limited with the latest software/firmware and no DAB option.

This is the bizarre thing. Was it head unit lotto or what?

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

It seems to be the case!

The only other scenario I can conjure is that if there is absolutely no DAB signal in range when the firmware is updated the option is not displayed and if there is a DAB signal present during the installation the option continues to be displayed. A kind of installation self check. Possibly far fetched but not beyond the realm of possibility for Jeep!

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

Yeah I chucked that theory around a while back. I can't imagine there being two different head units being fitted at random. That'd be nuts...

Can you confirm which model of GC had the DAB button? Maybe units above Laredo (pov pack) status has DAB.

I've just updated my Laredo to 14.25.5 and no DAB, nor did it have before, but hey, i can turn on/off grid lines
