Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

Laredo a pretty well optioned Pov pack!!
I only have experience with GC Limited.
I wouldn't imagine the Laredo being different unless of course it is the 4x2 and the game is very different then.

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

Story from my dealer is:

"Many 2014 GC's were incorrectly flashed with code that included DAB, though the vehicles were not setup to support DAB. eg. No antenna. We can add an antenna if we wish to get DAB, however, next flash update for the 2014 GC is likely to remove DAB functionality as it wasnt meant to be there in the first place so also is not supported."

So it seems that the processor and DSP in the head units all can support DAB with the right software and DSP code, but only some GC's got the DAB flash code (in error) ! This all makes sense to me. So if you want to keep DAB dont get any flash updates and tell your dealer that too if/when the new version comes out ! Of course it may mean if you want DAB you may have to forego other fixes etc that may be done in the future.

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

I understand that the 2027 (MY32) release V1001.45 will bring back DAB+, but will at the same time remove virtual visualisation, teletransporting, 3D K9 mechanical pet integration, as well as remote control of UConnect from Mars.
Basically, they will only introduce items after they have become redundant.

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

Well to give the dealer credit, they were helpful and their answers made sense - whereas CJA was just interested in getting rid of the DAB button and telling me that it was impossible that it worked next to the transmission towers or not ! Basically telling me I was lying !!! They don't seem to understand customers at all :-( Really gives you warm and fuzzy feelinbg about having bought a Jeep

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

I spoke with my dealer on Saturday an he confirmed that there was an error in the flash made available to Australia and pre-2015 should not have DAB enabled. Any new flash associated against the pre-2015 VIN will remove the DAB button.

He also said they had looked to offer it up as an upgrade out of their dealership for pre-2015 but the cost of the genuine window with fitting put the upgrade at about $3000 so they dropped that idea.

I bought the splitter mentioned in an earlier post from Rajone and I am going to give that a try.

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

So, finally got to remove the cargo barrier and left rear trim panel on the weekend. I will post some pictures and more details soon but summary is - my GC has just two coax cables together both of which are unconnected to anything. They were just lying over the top of the left rear wheel arch. So, just to test temporarily, I connected a 1mm solid copper wire about 2m long into the centre of the coax connector, wound the excess cable around the trim ties in the back and I have perfect DAB operation !!!

Having said that I haven't ventured our of the Adelaide metro area, but where I travelled I got perfect reception. Its definitely worth doing, its so much better than even FM radio in quality and AM well there's no comparison.

I will post more details and pics maybe tonight.

Sorry, dont know why two of the images got inverted, they were the right way up before uploading....

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

By the way, can anyone confirm the connector type is a FAKRA socket ? It looks like that but can anyone confirm ? Thanks.

Re: Australian 2014 GC with DAB

Yes it is a Fakra connector. There are quite a few on eBay. The aqua colour connectors have a universal key so they should connect into any other colour Fakra connector you just have to work out male or female.

I got two short leads on eBay and I am going to try the splitter amplifier this weekend if I can get the spare time.
