Re: Axle Corrosion

Just checking to see what everyone has used / is using, ie
  1. fish oil
  2. tectyl 506
  3. Rubbedin?
I've done no beach work yet but may do soon so I'll pull my wheels off in a few weeks to inspect and apply something preventative....fish oil seems to be the tried and proven product over many years (now odourless ) but I'm also curious to see if anyone has used Tectyl 506 and if they've notice any results.

Re: Axle Corrosion

Still to scared to check. Assuming they are like the one in the us post. Is it too late for me to apply anything? Also surely this would be a warranty repair?

If you've ever towed a boat trailer dipping it in and out of salt water you'd see this level of rust on the solid steel axle. Disappointing to see it so soon but a spray can of fish oil and top it up each time you rotate the wheels would cover it. What's the worse that could happen? Wheel fall off?

Remember that this area gets hot so most things won't last long. Be careful not to put too much gunk on it lest it finds its way onto the disk. Other than that, I think just about anything will do if it is checked regularly particularly after long trips. For the long term, I have no idea.

Re: Axle Corrosion

I havent looked at mine yet. However what would you think about a corrosion converter/primer first, followed by a coat or two of brake caliper paint?

Wouldnt that be the best way to fix and protect?

Now you're thinking I'm guessing brake caliper paint takes a special primer if anything.
