Re: Baa Baaa's Long Trip Home

The clock adjusted? What, back 5 years?
Wait till you cross into NT, it will drop another 6 odd years.

We've found the GPS doesn't like to be changed/mucked with/requested to consider other possibilites etc whilst on the move IOE. Ya gotta stop (apparently).

Allypally that is pretty silly... Everyone knows if you cross in to the NT you go back 20+ years.

It is funny that you love the CP trek.. I pretty well hate. Done it WAY too many times. Can almost do it with my eyes closed.

And yes, I'll save a good bottle of red for any forum members that want to stop off for a Barbie..

I know changing of most settings are blocked off while in motion. All we did was turn on "show towns" Mr. GPS did not like this..

Glad your trip is going well. Question - how do you update the GPS Maps and how often is it required?
Cheers.

Gforce, I have not done it yet but I heard you can update them via USB. I wouldn't call it "required" but Garmin usually come out with updates about twice a year.. Well they did when I used my portable Garmin.

Ok, thanks. I just hope they don't charge a fortune for this as we are trapped into staying with Garmin. I saw a Tom Tom in Dick Smiths with lifetime map updates, I think the unit was around $160. Anyhow time will tell... My Limited arrives next week and will be ready (I hope) to take delivery the following. My drive will be a lot shorter than yours as I am only 2 hrs away from the Dealership. Starting to get a little excited.
Cheers.

Yes, I should have mentioned it today's post.. The ride is just amazing, the car is so quite, you would never think it is a diesel. I am SO happy that i got a Jeep, happy i waited for MY14 and very happy I got the Overland.

One thing I never mention is again today while driving down steep slops we could hear the "tone" again, each time it would last 5 to 10 secs. It seemed more common while going downward and turning. Anyone have an idea?
would that tone have anything to do with the turbo?

Re: Baa Baaa's Long Trip Home

If Jeep Australia control the Garmin maps, the same as they do the Navteq ones, then you can expect updates roughly every 2 years and costing in excess of $300.
Garmin may, as Navteq do, produce maps twice a year, but Jeep Australia don't buy them that often.

Have I been Conned? Shannon told me they are updated free when the car comes in for a service!

Re: Baa Baaa's Long Trip Home

I very much doubt if maps will be free. Shannon was probably talking of software upgrades.

Correct that is the system updates not maps. However they do "customer satisfaction" refreshes on the maps sometimes. In the past you guys didn't get those but the distribution is changing (probably actually SD card install). So I will keep you guys posted if this changes.
