Re: Battery Issues with Aus CRD?

My Ford Territory has the same issue. Leave it for 2 weeks, and you wont even be able to light up the interior lights.

Exclamation Re: Battery Issues with Aus CRD?

1st Battery replaced by Jeep Assist at 2 weeks after delivery (Sept 2011) and another at 10,000k's last month. Both times it was unable to start on jumper leads and towed to the dealer. Local dealers, been to 2 of them, have no idea although they did software upgrade on Wiring Control Module last time, told me it was ready for collection, after having it for 3 days, and battery was dead flat when I called to pick it up! Not a happy Jeepster right now!

I'm not sure if that is relative to a Aus Jeep directive or just the dealer going round a problem...
One poster mentioned his CRD required an update of the PCM to address battery management issues, and this was done by his dealer.

I did notice some time back in the WK2 brochure that there is mention of a "battery saver feature" adjacent to the battery spec.

Does anyone know what this feature is?

Are there other CRD's around Aus with batteries going flat?

Did they upgrade to 900cca or just replace 800 with another 800?

Re: Battery Issues with Aus CRD?

I have been helping my dad with his 2011 KK (liberty), 3 times his battery has gone flat. Third time, I went ape with service AND dealer, and they took it for 4 days. came back and they said "they had to upgrade" something, because the radio was drying out the battery. The funny thing is that my dad told the dealer that next time the battery goes dry, he was changing it for a WK2 hahahaha

Re: Battery Issues with Aus CRD?

We are still having this problem, had battery replaced with 900cca and radio upgrade but still happens. wife can drive 40km @ 100km/h stop at shops get back in car and no go, I'll come and jump start her and it will be good for a few more weeks then do it again

Re: Battery Issues with Aus CRD?

That sounds like either a faulty battery or a wiring issue.

Re: Battery Issues with Aus CRD?

I cannot see why changing from a 800cca battery to a 900cca battery will stop it going flat. If its going to go flat, the difference between an 800cca battery and a 900cca battery would be minimal.

There is obviously a power drain.

As discussed further up the thread this appears to be a software issue and an upgrade is required to sort the problem.

Re: Battery Issues with Aus CRD?

It would be intresting to place a meter between the battery and the positive lead to measure what the power drain is with ignition off. If it is discharging in a matter of hours, then it is some serious drain. I doubt if it is a software issue with that timeframe. That is the sort of drainage you might expect with headlights left on.

Re: Battery Issues with Aus CRD?

I'm with allypally on this. There's a fault probably in the battery.

If you can start normally, drive like that, and then not be able to start, it's unlikely to be a drain.

When you try to start it, can you hear the starter solenoid clicking in or not?

Re: Battery Issues with Aus CRD?

When these are supposedly flat has anyone done a load test across the battery? If it is flat then something is draining it. Or something is wrong with the charge circuit.
I think it would more likely be electronic, some thing not kicking in a relay.
Hooking up a jumper just gives it a kick, enough that the faulty electronics thinks it is OK to try and start now.

Re: Battery Issues with Aus CRD?

I think that our suspicions are somewhat aligned.

To clarify my point a couple of posts up, I suspect that it is a software issue that is causing the powerdrain.

I cannot see how replacing a 800 cca battery with a 900 cca battery could possibly fix this issue.

Looking at WK2Jeeps TSB page, there doesn't appear to be a TSB for this one as yet.
