Re: Brisbane day trips

I've ventured to both Bribie and Moreton Island over the past few weeks and agree Benno the suspension is interesting. Lots of bumping around. I experienced that step up on Bribie and dislodged the ACC sensor on my overland with the flimsy plastic bumper pushing up - a definite design flaw. Had the dealer reattach it but a vehicle that is built to go off road shouldn't really have this drama.

Also found that in some of the really soft stuff It was better to use the paddles to select the right gear as a couple of times the auto didn't want to kick down to 1st - it stayed in 2nd and made it difficult, digging in once.
Overall though the vehicle was fantastic off road and will be looking to head back onto the beach again soon.

Re: Brisbane day trips

Were you in sand mode? I've found it tends to hold lower gears in sand mode.

Did you do Moreton as a day trip, or were you staying over there? I haven't been to Moreton yet, thinking about giving it a try.

Re: Brisbane day trips

Yep - I was in sand mode. Sand mode does hold the lower gear longer (it changes it to sport mode) but it seemed to rely heavily on 2nd gear. When losing a bit momentum I gave it some real right boot to get it to kick down and it didn't. The paddles worked a treat though and let me moderate the revs to keep the vehicle moving.
I was at Moreton for 2 nights/3 days. Went on the early barge (8.30am) on a Friday and returned on late barge (4.30pm) on Sunday. Accommodation was in the glamping tents at Bulwer which I highly recommend - camping feel without having to take all the gear, and you get a shower and toilet in the tent too!! The missus loved it. Very reasonable pricing including breaky and dinner - we took some extra food and of course the obligatory beverages
Here is the link to the website - https://www.moretonislandadventures.com.au/glamping

From memory the ferry cost was $249 for vehicle and 4 passengers - so definitely need to stay for longer than a day. Have been to Moreton a number of times and it is an awesome place to visit.

Re: Brisbane day trips

Yeah, the ferry is a killer. Might have to get over there for a few days next year.... thanks.

Yep, had this happen too. Agreed the design leaves somewhat to be desired!

Re: Brisbane day trips

The Chief lower guard sounds like the answer for that one.

Re: Brisbane day trips

Hey Benn0,

I'm heading up to Land Cruiser Mountain Park (Nov 14-15-16) for a bit of fun and product testing for Chief Products.

If you're interested in a weekend of 4Wheeling and sitting around the campfire, let me know. It would be great to finally meet, do some off-roading and tell few stories around the campfire.

If you're curious, check out this thread for more info, (Weekend Wheeling Nov 14-15-16).

Cheers,
Bill

Re: Brisbane day trips

Ahh, G20 weekend, I was actually looking at getting away on that weekend, but turns out my daughter's ballet concert is on the Saturday.... and I'm also in the middle of renos on the main bedroom/WIR/ensuite, pushing to get it finished before christmas.

But thanks for the invite, I'm hoping to get away more often next year, so let me know for the next trip....

Re: Brisbane day trips

How far away is the Chief Lower Front guard and will it cater for ACC?

Would be great if you are in the designated public holiday zone.

Yeah I reckon 90% of Brisbane will be thinking that.
