So I'm off for my first 'off road' day trip in the new GC on Monday, going to do a run up duck creek rd with some friends. Not very challenging, but hopefully there will be some muddy ruts to test.

I thought it would be good to build a list of easy one day offroad trips in the south east with some basic info:

Duck Creek Rd - starting at Kerry Rd, south of Beaudesert and finishing at O-Reileys. Gold coin donation.

Booloumba Creek - Starting at Stoney Creek Rd just west of Woodford, north through Imbil State forest on Jimna-Bellthorpe Rd, then back toward Booloumba Creek, past the Sunday Creek education center and on to Booloumba creek camp ground.

Condamine River Rd - Starting at Spring Creek Rd, 50kms south of Boonah, lots of shallow river crossings, continues through to Warwick. (I haven't done this one yet)

Mt Mee - Starting at Laceys rd just west of Dayboro, up the Range Rd forest drive and Mt Mee forest drive to the camp grounds.

Lockyer National Park - Starting at Krugers rd north of Gatton, west along Redbank Gully rd, then north on 17 mile rd to Ravensbourne national park. Can be closed in wet weather. (Haven't done this one yet)

Teewah beach - East of Gympie, head toward Rainbow Beach, then turn right at Freshwater Rd or 5kms before that is Kings bore rd (sometimes closed off), drive up to the lighthouse, then back down to 1st Beach cutting at Teewah and on the ferry back to Tewantin. Requires a permit.

Bribie Island - Across the bridge and north toward poverty creek and along the northen access track. (I haven't done this one yet)

Feel free to add to the list.....

I drove to Five Dock today, Parramatta Road is a real bitch to navigate.

We got married on the weekend at Hill Song.

Well went up duck creek rd yesterday, a bit rougher than I was expecting, but no problems. Tried OR2 for bits of it, and heard the rear wheel slipping, then the instrument panel shows the little lock sign on the drivetrain..... cool!

Found a bit of mud off the track and had a bit of a spin through that. Had a look at doing the rock..... looks way too cut up, so gave that a miss.

With those wheels and tyres as well as thr diff it should pretty much go anywhere.
I did a course a couple of weekends ago and was very surprised how well it went without the diff and on the 20in road tyres.

Yep, I was more worried about scraping the nose than anything else, there is a steep section up duck creek rd that isn't too unlike that clip, but I was going up.

'The rock' track is really dug up, not sure the GC would make the approach, and the exit track had big exposed boulders at the top, there would be some scraping of the underbelly involved breaking over the lip.

We went up the same section and then another section that was even narrower however my passenger couldnt be bothered walking up.
No way I would have thought it would make it up and i even said to the instructor that I would not have attempted it without him their but the Jeep did it and with 20's on :)

Well I was thinking of heading up to Teewah beach over the school holidays, but still not sure when.

I got up to Teewah Beach yesterday, a lot of traffic on the sand, but not too bad...

There had been a bit of rain, so sand wasn't too difficult, but definitely built a bit of confidence with the Jeep on this trip. Tried stopping in soft entries to access tracks, then starting again, and didn't feel like bogging down for a minute. Wasted my time taking the maxtrax.....

I got out to Bribie Island on Sunday.... geez, talk about busy!

I'm still getting use to driving the Jeep on sand, had to do a 3 point turn on soft sand near one of the swimming holes and started to bog down, so got off the accelerator, tried again and could feel it digging down so again got off the gas. Then realised I had to just give it some right foot and all was good.

The suspension is the real weak link on this car for offroad, really throws you around, coming back off the beach there is a step up, but you have to carry speed to get through the soft stuff. A hilux and patrol were stuck getting back up off the beach, the Jeep just went around them, but with the speed I had at the step up it really launched. Lots of bangs from the suspension as she bounced around, and a few looks, but we made it.

At the swimming hole, this little guy came skating across the water and tried to jump on my back, scared the crap out of me. I think its a yellow faced whip.....

I've ventured to both Bribie and Moreton Island over the past few weeks and agree Benno the suspension is interesting. Lots of bumping around. I experienced that step up on Bribie and dislodged the ACC sensor on my overland with the flimsy plastic bumper pushing up - a definite design flaw. Had the dealer reattach it but a vehicle that is built to go off road shouldn't really have this drama.

Also found that in some of the really soft stuff It was better to use the paddles to select the right gear as a couple of times the auto didn't want to kick down to 1st - it stayed in 2nd and made it difficult, digging in once.
Overall though the vehicle was fantastic off road and will be looking to head back onto the beach again soon.

Were you in sand mode? I've found it tends to hold lower gears in sand mode.

Did you do Moreton as a day trip, or were you staying over there? I haven't been to Moreton yet, thinking about giving it a try.

Yep - I was in sand mode. Sand mode does hold the lower gear longer (it changes it to sport mode) but it seemed to rely heavily on 2nd gear. When losing a bit momentum I gave it some real right boot to get it to kick down and it didn't. The paddles worked a treat though and let me moderate the revs to keep the vehicle moving.
I was at Moreton for 2 nights/3 days. Went on the early barge (8.30am) on a Friday and returned on late barge (4.30pm) on Sunday. Accommodation was in the glamping tents at Bulwer which I highly recommend - camping feel without having to take all the gear, and you get a shower and toilet in the tent too!! The missus loved it. Very reasonable pricing including breaky and dinner - we took some extra food and of course the obligatory beverages :D
Here is the link to the website - https://www.moretonislandadventures.com.au/glamping

From memory the ferry cost was $249 for vehicle and 4 passengers - so definitely need to stay for longer than a day. Have been to Moreton a number of times and it is an awesome place to visit.

Hey Benn0,

I'm heading up to Land Cruiser Mountain Park (Nov 14-15-16) for a bit of fun and product testing for Chief Products.

If you're interested in a weekend of 4Wheeling and sitting around the campfire, let me know. It would be great to finally meet, do some off-roading and tell few stories around the campfire.

If you're curious, check out this thread for more info, (http://www.jeepgarage.org/f190/weekend-wheeling-nov-14-15-16-a-80843.html#post1107050).

Cheers,
Bill

Ahh, G20 weekend, I was actually looking at getting away on that weekend, but turns out my daughter's ballet concert is on the Saturday.... and I'm also in the middle of renos on the main bedroom/WIR/ensuite, pushing to get it finished before christmas.

But thanks for the invite, I'm hoping to get away more often next year, so let me know for the next trip....

There will be 2 versions available, for those with the ACC Camera and without. You can read some more about it here, (http://www.jeepgarage.org/f42/wk2-lower-front-guard-77071-4.html).

We're coming down the home stretch now. I don't have a set release date yet. It depends on how quickly we can get our test fitting completed.

If you're keen to help out with the test fitting, we just had someone cancel and could really use a MY14 WK2 with ACC Camera and parking sensors. You can find more information over in this thread, (http://www.jeepgarage.org/f190/need...-fitting-gold-coast-and-brisbane-70549-4.html). Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Bill
