Re: Bullbar coming

just got this response from the ARB product manager today

"Thank you for your enquiry to ARB and your interest in our products.

The good news is that ARB will be manufacturing a bar for the current Grand Cherokee.

I would love to be able to give you an availability date, however at this time I canít.

ARB are experiencing an unprecedented demand for new and existing products. In fact demand has doubled in the last twelve months. ARBís design engineering department has over 30 full time engineers working to develop a range of ARB products for a host of new and updated vehicles. The engineering and development work required for a single product is quite substantial. Gone are the days of simply welding together a product and bolting it to a vehicle. Vehicle impact systems, stability control (ESC) and CAN bus electrical systems all add a considerable work load and testing requirement to almost every new product.

We are committed to manufacturing products for the Grand Cherokee and day by day are getting closer to turning that intention into a reality. We acknowledge there are many people, like yourself, who need protection for their vehicle and we intend to support them."

So we wait - maybe the more emails, the sooner it will arrive...

Re: Bullbar coming

In my view SmartBar are the only people that can do the great styling of the GC justice. However, I asked them and they have no plans for the GC. Unfortunately, the ECB bullbar looks it was ripped it off a Parado.

I've never seen a smart bar that looks good yet, so I don't know why they would change their styling cues for this one. In contrast I think the ECB one looks awesome, i am very much considering getting one when my GC arrives.

I did enquire as to ARB, the store manager didn't know so he called ARB HQ and was told they got the GC in but in their opinion, the chassis rails were to short and would not be sufficient to mount one of their steel bullbars to.

I did read somewhere on here that associated with the change in recovery hooks on the front end they shortened the chassis rails, so that could explain it.

I was mainly looking for a bar with a winch capability, hence the ARB question. I've also started a post on Ausjeepoffroad.com.au where ARB Aus have actually responded.
Interestingly, the several of the calls to ARB HO and the replies given via email seem to be in conflict. This answer above I can totally understand.
Given the change in front chasis from the MY11 to the MY12 Export model, I'm not surprised that the WK2 may have fallen into a too hard basket.
What's disappointing me is the continual yes, it's on our list, should be available late 2012, now I get info that it's mid to late 2013.
At least TJM came right out and said, no, not going to make one.

I've just sent an enquiry to ECB to find my nearest retailer/installer.

It's a matter of personal taste. Granted the SmartBar does not have that macho off-road look but I like the look of the Jeep and would like something that doesn't detract too much from the Jeep look and still give some roo protection.

I agree BobT. They provide decent protection as well as being light weight. I never thought I'd even consider a SmartBar and now they've said they're not making a bar for the WK2 it looks like I never will either.

It is unbelievable (& completely unacceptable) that there is only one real option for a bullbar for this vehicle.

Any updates on the bullbars? My dealer just told me he could get one for the Overland I ordered. I know about the ECB, but it doesn't fit the Overland. I'm waiting for him to let me know where he can get it from. Has ARB come through?

He might mean Yulara, not "Yamba", but Uluru is correct. Ayers Rock is just what us white fricks called it. How dare we disrespect their land which they so respectfully litter with VB cans and assorted rubbish.

Don't even get me started on their cars. Not enough hours in the day to get all the cars/drivers that are unlicensed, unregistered, uninsured, unroadworthy, overladen and intoxicated, all at the same time. Those cars deserve to be burnt out.
